We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chris Beer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, appreciate you joining us today. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
I embrace remote-work opportunities, as it allows people to be connected to the talent they deserve
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I don’t think many kids answer “Integrator” to the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” so I’m going to tell you a little bit about my career path.
After years of working in finance, as well as a consultant for small businesses, I saw firsthand how a solid foundation is imperative before scaling a business. However, founders and leaders of companies, particularly early-stage companies, often lack access to the operational expertise needed to create the right foundation for growth. That sparked a desire to be that person who helps big visions come to life.
As the “Wizard of Ops™,” I am engaged by entrepreneurial organizations to work in the business to help leadership teams achieve scalable growth as a Fractional Integrator. I accomplish this through my expertise in operational efficiency and change management, all while relying heavily upon the tools of the Entrepreneurial Operating System®.
I have worked with companies in diverse industries (construction, SAAS, wellness businesses) in the US and Canada, all in various stages of growth. My sweet spot is a “second stage company,” meaning, a company that has moved beyond startup and has the aptitude and appetite to continue growing. From a numbers perspective, the company typically has 10-99 employees and generate $5 million to $50 million in annual revenue.
I am a graduate of the EOS Integrator Masterclass, an active member of the Integrator Mastery Forum, and I never turn down an opportunity for continuing education. I am also a member of Fractional Leadership, an elite community of independently vetted Fractional Leaders with the expertise, industry experience, and executive background to serve small and medium size businesses who need this level of support, producing results at a fraction of the time and cost.
In addition to work with corporate teams, I am building a brand centered around “Better Living through Systems.” Simply put, these are tips and tricks that can be used by anyone to streamline their personal and professional lives, giving people more time to do the things they love.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I spent the first 18 years of my working life in finance as an options trader, a career that I loved. When you love what you do, it becomes a part of your identity and a fierce source of pride. When that runway came to a close and it was time for me to explore a new career path, well – the closest word that I can use to describe it is “grief.”
While the word “grief” tends to bring to mind the death of a loved one, grief can be experienced through a variety of life events, including losses of relationships, health, moves, and even successful milestones like marriages and retirements.
My loss of my trading career was the loss of my “first love” but I’m thrilled to have found that passion and fulfillment again in my work as an Integrator.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Hands down, operating with an abundance mindset! I make a conscious effort to see the endless potential in myself and others. By working to help others be their best, I have found opportunities to do what I love with my target market.
