We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris “Bear” McCullough. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris “Bear” below.
Chris “Bear” , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents instilled core values that I use everyday. I work hard for the things I have achieved. I believe in that principle. I put my family before my work. Memories are something children need their family to be a part of. Give back to those in need. Take the time to help someone, you will find the giving much more rewarding than the taking.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bear McCullough. I am a Cattleman in south Hillsborough County. My business is a family operation that was established many years ago. Like most Floridians we deal with housing booms and land development as new people move to our state. I feel in my heart that there is a way for all of us to exist here together with proper planning and smart conservation efforts. This is one reason why I am a candidate for Hillsborough County Soil and Water Supervisor. I believe education is key to preservation of rural lands and keeping our water clean for generations to come. Rural lands and cattle are good for the environment. The rural lands serve as a filter for water returning to the gulf or ocean. Cattle ranchers and farmers across the state play a key role in this process.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
This is a pretty easy question and the answer is simple. We are honest and always do what’s right. There are many days in the past where I could have made a profit off of someone’s loss but i would rather take the hit than be a dishonest person.
Any advice for managing a team?
Treat your people like family. They are with you more than they are with their real families. Make them feel appreciated and help them cope with personal issues. People need to feel needed and appreciated.
