We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris & Amy Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris & Amy below.
Alright, Chris & Amy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
It all begin by complete accident. We are both members of the Beachbody fitness community and have always been interested in health and fitness. With this business the concept began as some friends who are also part of this health and wellness company mentioned they were looking for an apparel company to make custom gear. They could t find anyone that was willing to make on demand pieces. It was always minimums needed. This is where the idea came. Amy and I chatted about making those customs so we purchased all the materials and products needed to begin. We started extremely small and did a few customs. We noticed this was an untapped market and only a few companies if any were inside Canada that serviced this business market. We slowly began to message teams and instead of starting small we reached out to some of the largest teams in the market. Some replied and it became apparently we stumbled onto a worthwhile business venture. We truly felt we were working a niche market and it was only going to grow from here and we are very happy to say this is exactly what had happened.
Chris & Amy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Amy and I (Chris) are avid fitness fans and love any chance we can to be active. We knew that this being our accidental side hustle we wanted to approach like anything we do. We offer several types of custom printing. Those include screen printing, DTF printing, vinyl, embroidery and sublimation. We have several small print shops we work directly with to make our apparel as fast as we can . We do a lot of it in house and do offset some large jobs outside to only a select few shops. What sets us apart from other shops is our attention to our clients and our customer service. This does not say that we don’t feel other businesses don’t offer great customer service as we are huge with supporting other creators but we feel that we as a small business go that extra mile. This is what we are most about. Our reputation is 100% built around this and it’s one of if not the main reasons we feel we have been so successful to date.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I feel the most important part of any business in building a brand and keeping clients is connections to your client and how effective you are at delivering on time. Businesses in our area are working fast to produce a product and or create for an event so the fact that timing is extremely important. The reality for us is we treat every client as if they are our only one. The time we take to create a print, design that print and manufacture it’ is and will always be a top priority. Spending on quality is also something we won’t avoid. Spending extra to make sure your client is taken care of is a non negotiable for us. This is truly one for the biggest reasons we feel we have clients return over and over.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
As a Canadian company we have come to realize over the past few years that the marketplace in Canada is not very good apparel wise. The options for apparel in the US are much better. The cost in Canada is better sure because you don’t have to factor in all of the additional costs to order those same products. In doing all of our ordering from the US we open up and don’t exclude certain styles and brands bc they aren’t available in Canada. We never wanted to limit our clients choices so we feel this was an area we never wanted to limit on. Spending more to get the clothing here has been worth it every time. As time grew on we became more aware of more vendors in Canada and the US so we use as many as we can pull from and it always changes based on stock. This way our clients never suffer and will always have access to the best styles brands and sizes we can offer.
