We were lucky to catch up with Chloie P. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think when I was four or five. I was staying at my grandparents and my grandpa had a band rehearsal one night at the house. They were in a bar band. All of their friends came over. Just watching his his band play and have so much fun, and their friends(who weren’t even in the band) just grabbing whatever they could find to make noise and join in. I didn’t even play guitar at the time, but I always had toy guitars. I remember running around and pretending to play with them. That always stuck with me. I just wanted to have that much silly fun with my friends doing something we love.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How we go into the industry?: The guys and I all met at college. We all have been in and out of bands for the last six or seven years, and were hire ons for other musicians. Some of us played some of the same gigs together. I had a lot of fun doing that, but it was also very stressful. I won’t speak for the guys, but I got burned bad a few times doing that to the point where I did’t play or write anything for a year. I also had an awful part time job. Then after covid I finally got the courage (after Viktor hyping me up) to start my own project. One that would be serious in how/what we wrote and recorded, but silly in everything els. A project that would be fun and low stress and allow us to explore creative parts of us that we hadn’t yet. like all our silly skits on our TicTok.
What sets us apart?: I think our silly scouts uniforms and our skits. If people are not laughing with us, we want them to laugh at us. Either way you are smiling. Hopefully that peeks your internets enough to come to a show just to see the silly band that you found on social media. We wanted an easy way to market our band and make content and The Scout bit helps us do that in a fun way. Also, lyrically really heavy and sad and I felt like we need something to cut though that a little bit.
What we want fans to know: Please come to shows and experience that for your self. Until then, be kind and excellent to each other. Peace out Scouts. <3
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
GO TO SHOW, GO TO SHOWS, AND GO TO SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy merch, support you friends bands, and if you like and artist share their social media post.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I spent a few years as a hired gun for touring musicians I knew. I worked part time at a hotel during gaps in scheduling, so that I could get staff rated rooms if we needed a place to stay on the road. Let me tell you nothing sucks more than touring doing what you love to come home and sling cookies for hateful guest. Then covid. I moved back in with my parent and switched to full time at the hotel. It was awful hands down the worst 9-5 job I have ever had, and I worked as a janitor for years before touring. I made more money in a three day weekend run playing music than I did in a two weeks working at the hotel. It was awful. I always have struggled with depression, but working at the hotel made it almost unbearable. I’m not sure if the story illustrates resilience, but its how I got to the point where I finally understood that I can’t wait around for other people to make my dream happen. I knew if I stayed at the hotel it was going to kill me. If I want to make music and play shows I was going to have to write it and put a band together myself. I reached out to Viktor who always kind and excited whenever I showed him music I was working on. I asked If he would be willing to record just one song. Just one to see If I/we were capable of making something that would hold it own and that we were proud of. He was 100% in from the start. We started working on Haunted. Once we figured out we were on to something we slowly brought in the others. I am so lucky and grateful that all of my first picks for this project said yes. Chris Nelson- Lead Guitar, Jeremy Conner- Drums, Kyle Wright- Lead guitar, Viktor Mendez- bass, engineer, producer, mixing/master. These are the best people and musicians that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting/knowing. Who are now my closest friends. I can’t thank them enough.
