We were lucky to catch up with Chloe Temtchine recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chloe thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The project closest to my heart is “The Smile Tour.” I perform in leading U.S. hospitals for pediatric patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and other chronic illnesses. Funded by The Chloé Temtchine Foundation, my 501(c) 3, this tour transforms hospital rooms into intimate concert venues, offering moments of joy to children and their families during tough times. The tour synergizes with “Super Brave Kids,” an initiative where I interview these young “superheroes,” who share their stories and inspire a wider audience. Both projects not only bring smiles to faces but also elevate public awareness of PAH and other severe health challenges. They encapsulate my core mission: to use music and storytelling to empower and inspire, turning life’s hardships into catalysts for change.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Chloé Temtchine, a singer, songwriter, and speaker, but perhaps what defines me the most is my role as an advocate and storyteller for those living with chronic illnesses like Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) and for those who have had a transplant. My journey into the world of music and advocacy was far from straightforward. I had just finished an album with Grammy-nominated songwriter Greg Camp and was set for a world tour when I was diagnosed with a life-threatening lung condition. This unexpected turn led me to redirect my creative energy towards not just entertainment, but also empowerment and awareness-raising.
I’ve released several albums that aim to uplift and inspire. “Be Brave” is one example. I wrote the song after being released from the critical care unit, with the intention of bringing hope to myself and to those facing their own battles. As a speaker, I’ve collaborated with organizations such as Johnson and Johnson and Transplants For Children with the goal of motivating and inspiring teams and individuals.
One of my flagship initiatives is “The Smile Tour.” I perform in hospitals for pediatric patients living with chronic conditions. Funded by The Chloé Temtchine Foundation, this tour aims to offer comfort and inspiration to those who need it most. Another related project is “Super Brave Kids,” a platform where children living with chronic illnesses can share their own empowering stories.
What sets me apart is my lived experience. I’ve spent over a decade grappling with two fatal health conditions, undergoing a life-saving, double-lung transplant, and using these experiences to fuel my work.
I’m most proud of the way my work has evolved to serve a higher purpose: to inspire and empower those dealing with life’s most challenging circumstances. If there’s one thing I’d like potential followers or clients to know, it’s that my work is a testament to human resilience. Whether it’s through my music, my speeches, or my advocacy projects, my ultimate goal is to help others find their own unique pathway to courage, hope, and healing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Faced with severe Pulmonary Hypertension and Pulmonary Veno Occlusive Disease, doctors gave me less than a year to live. Losing my voice due to permanent vocal cord paralysis seemed like just the tip of the iceberg. I transformed my mindset, replacing fear with the following motto: “What if everything goes right?” I utilized five key principles Turning to books and documentaries, I reframed my mindset to one of endless possibilities. I approached healing holistically, focusing on nutrition, supportive relationships, regular exercise, and creative expression. Six months later, I was back on stage proving that my circumstances didn’t have to define me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is fueled by a deeply personal mission: to empower those dealing with life’s most challenging circumstances. After facing life-altering health challenges myself, including a double-lung transplant, my music and storytelling took on a greater purpose. My mission is to remind people that life is precious, that anything can happen to any of us at any moment, that we get to write our own stories, to stop waiting for someday but rather to start living NOW, to appreciate every breath we take, and to remember that life is the actual gift; everything else is an added bonus.
