We were lucky to catch up with Chloe Sheridan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I’m not only a professional organizer and cleaner, I am an emotional support coach who provides trauma informed care and specializes in working with people who are neurodivergent. Taking care of your space ties right into mental health and when you’re struggling, the daily tasks become overwhelming and pile up to the point where a regular maid services would not take you on as a client, for example I’ll wash the moldy dishes, do the pee covered laundry, break down your recycling of boxes that have piled up high or sit with you as we go through your deceased loved ones items and make really hard decisions. I help customize spaces and systems to better work for your family that may not be conventional. My work is not only physical labor but emotional as well. We work through trauma as we work through spaces, sometimes shedding tears as we let things go, leaving my clients feeling lighter. I help my clients sort and purge and haul away donations to appropriate places such as local nonprofit organizations to assure nothing goes to waste if not necessary. I truly care about the well being of my people and always leave them better than I found them. When I have the capacity I offer my services on a sliding scale because I want to assure I am accessible to all.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I am the last person I’d thought would be giving advice about social media. I’m technically challenge and use probably 1% of my phones capacity. I bought my first computer at the age of 28 and that was for the sole purpose of creating a website for my organizing business, but after months of anxiety of not doing so i reached out to Erin Brown whose a ghost writer and creative marketing strategist among other things and she created the website for me! That being said if I can build an online presence anyone can! And I believe it starts with some consistently when posting, using hashtags is how people found me that weren’t my friends and how I ended up shipping art worldwide. With my organizing account it’s all reels. For what I do it’s really visually satisfying to watch a Timelapse of someone clean a really messy space, and with my luck is just something that’s really popular right now. This attention is very new as I’ve become better at video recording and now getting up to 10,000 likes a video and recently gained 1,700 new followers in one week from one video. I’ve yet to pay for advertising because honestly I’m so booked up for months out at times I don’t think I have the capacity! But that’s definitely something I’d recommend doing for your business! Because personally that’s how I find business’s to support!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Creating this business saved me. Not only financially but mentally. Doing something you love everyday that pays a living wage is life changing. Which honestly if everyone had I’m sure mental health may look different, obviously that’s not the answer to it all but let’s be honest, the system is designed to keep us down. After years of being on the road, I landed back in Lawrence in 2019 and was ready to create a more stable life for myself. I was doing the nannying side hustle and started working at a local tortilla shop which those weekly paychecks I can now make in one day working for myself. This tortilla shop was consistent tho and with the plan to buy a house I needed to stay somewhere long enough to show proof of income. Well then the housing market went to shit and I was breaking my back, barely making ends meet when I finally said no more after two years at the tortilla shop. I took the leap of faith, risked my security of that Friday paycheck and I went for it and bam! One post on a local Facebook group and I was booked out for two months and now going into my third year of business and I’m still booked out months and still getting business from that single post! I’ve never paid for advertisement as word of mouth has kept me going year after year! And now with several magazine features I’ve gotten business from has helped tremendously too!
