We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chloe Charles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chloe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

I grew to find a deeper meaning in my existence. This inspired her to focus her energy not just on her own creations but on connection and collaboration across all artistic mediums. After setting my intentions, a new world opened to me, one of synergy, mutual support, and deep fulfillment.

ECHLO has since collaborated with acclaimed visual artists worldwide (Ukraine, Istanbul, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, China, France, USA) with projects in the works as we speak.

“This is my response to a sick society. Not to be angry but to connect with others and become more than myself. “

Naked and daring, ECHLO places focus on intent, imbuing subversive social critique into her compelling explorations. She takes liberties in its unflinching storytelling and sidestepping sonic signifiers tying it to any particular genre. Reflecting the concerns of her generation, there is a defiant rejection of society’s systematic conventions, offering a sharp critique of the accepted political, social, and economic principles that hold us captive.

“Much like an echo, the delay after the direct sound, this is the embodiment of who I am, and it took a long time to get there.” The haunt that remains of her echo is the most genuine form of expression, darker and truer.

Chloe, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

In 2018, with an insatiable need for challenge and novelty, I jumped ship, press reset, and ventured into new territory, one led solely by all the sounds I could fathom and create between my downtown Toronto bedroom and her family art studio in the woods of Ontario.

Less constrained, I regained her creative fervor and wrote songs about follower behavior, learned helplessness, and deferral of responsibility, backed by driving beats and electronic soundscapes.

During this musical evolution, I assumed the ECHLO moniker and released her first single under “Head High,” which reached #1 on the CBC Music Top 20 Chart.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

To create and share my experiences doing what I am passionate about to connect with my followers and other artists worldwide.

Meet and collaborate with artists worldwide who share the vision of adding something valuable and who I admire for their talent and as humans. I see the projection of my songs interpreted by other artists. Musicians, performers, illustrators, visuals, dancers, etc…

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Be my best version, and continue growing in every possible way while being an independent artist, a mom, a wife, and a woman enjoying the journey.

Have a balance of doing what I love, continuing to create, write, sing, illustrate, share, and achieve new goals of unique projects coming with great, talented people worldwide.
