We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chloe Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chloe, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Most of the time. I’ve wanted to be an actress and singer pretty much my whole life. I was inspired by Taylor Swift and when I saw NBT (Next Big Thing) on Disney Channel. I always loved performing and I begged my parents to let me be a child actor but it just never worked out. However, now that I’m older and somewhat wiser, I see all these celebrities who grew up in the spotlight seeming sad and feeing like it’s a curse. Being under a microscope as a teen is bad enough but when you’re in front of a camera being monitored pretty much daily… I can’t imagine that.
So it must have been meant to be this way. It might have been better growing up “normal” so I can make my mistakes and do “normal” kid and teen things.
But now I’m eager for my career to take off. This is what I’m meant to do. I just have to keep going.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always put on performances for my family and done plays/musicals throughout my childhood until high school. I’ve been writing songs since I was 8 years old. I love being creative and expressing myself in an artistic way. I write about pretty much everything: heartbreak, friendships, even trauma. I don’t mind being vulnerable whether people say I have it better or worse than others or that I’m dramatic. I love getting my pain and experience out in a dramatically poetic way. I’m proud of overcoming it and almost poking fun at the past in a metaphorical way. I hope other people can relate or just enjoy the songs and see that pain makes you stronger and won’t hold you back. I feel like my pencil gliding across the paper squashes all that when it’s put to words. And singing it is so fun. Hearing the final project is so rewarding and I love when my friends tel me it’s their favorite or new favorite or they’ve added it to their playlist. It’s an honor. I hope people will like my new music more and it can reach new audiences.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It’s actually pretty funny. I’ve had tik tok since it was musical.ly. The first tik tok I made that went a little bit viral was me quoting this scene from one of my favorite shows “Miraculous,” because I have this weird talent for memorizing and quoting every show/movie I’ve watched. So I made a tik tok while on a zoom for this class I was in but forgot to turn my camera off and my reaction is what I think made the tik tok funny and get more views. Even one of the producers of the show saw it! Now I have a small following and promote all my music and do acting challenges and videos. Hopefully it grows more in the music direction soon.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to one day be in a movie or show. At least one. I’ve always dreamed of that. Performing is my passion. And hopefully one day I can play a show where some people know the words to my songs. Even if it’s only a dozen people. I really just want to play them for someone who wants to watch and listen and have fun singing the words and dancing to the music. Even if it’s just one show, I’d feel accomplished and grateful.
