We recently connected with Chivonne Hyppolite and have shared our conversation below.

Chivonne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

I owe all that I am today to my late mother, Jane Peterson. In July 2021 she passed from liver cancer, after fighting for five long years. I am her first born and her only daughter and she raised me to be a woman of faith, resilience, purpose and determination. She was a single mom who worked many years in sales and insurance, so she was a bonafide people person who could sell water to a shark! She was sharp, well spoken and always had an alluring smile of confidence on her face. We moved around a lot in my childhood because my mother never gave up on chasing her dreams and goals. So at an early age, I learned how to make friends and acquaintances in every new school or town we lived in. She oftentimes worked 3 jobs to support us my brother and I and she never allowed us to miss out on after school or extracurricular activities.

My mother instilled in me that its 100% okay to be my true self, unapologetically ME! She taught me how to love others and pursue my dreams, reach for my goals and that its always ok to fail, but fail forward. Don’t give up, just find another way to reach your destination. She spoke life into my creativity, she supported every professional and personal move I made to get me to where I am today. She was my biggest and loudest cheerleader in life…who always had a “thats my baby” type of t-shirt on to support me. She exposed me to thinking globally by taking my brother and I on vacations out of the country and she taught me how to be fearless. She taught me the immense power that loving a person through their faults and shortcomings and how love truly does conquer all things. My mother raised me to value my education, be fierce when using the power of the word NO and to cherish the people and relationships that I’ve built in my community. Most importantly, my mother illustrated what living life to the fullest looks like. In her last years with us, we traveled, explored, danced in the rain and ate all the delicious cuisine that we could stand. She raised us with grit overwhelming love and support. That in itself has impacted my life and career. For that, I am eternally grateful…I love you Mom.

I’m Chivonne Hyppolite, the founder and CEO of Abstract Elements Corporate Meetings & Events. I started this company in 2013 because I was exhausted by the same old cookie cutter corporate events that I was required to put on in my corporate career. There was no room for creativity and ingenuity, events were missing that WOW factor, so I left my corporate job and started Abstract Elements. With no start up capital, just shear faith, relentless resilience and and a brilliant mind ready to disrupt the event industry.
