We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chiquita Barnett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chiquita below.
Chiquita , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
In my early thirties I was in my professional career in the finance industry. I found myself unhealthy, overworked, and under paid. My main goal in my life at that time was to get back healthy. When I got sick, a few years prior, I had to learn a lot about how the body works from the Brain and the Central Nervous system (Which controls the entire body). Eventually I had to leave my job in order to manage my health better. I decided that I wanted to help promote more self-care and educate people so they wouldn’t end up in a similar situation as me. My goal then was to open a Spa. Once I went to a Spa conference I saw there was so much going on in the industry that I wanted to learn from the ground up. Next thing I know, since the job market slowed down, I enrolled in a Skincare program. While in the program, I had to again learn more about all parts of the body and how it responds to the products and treatments. While sitting in class, I had an epiphany and realized I was in the right place and chose a good industry for me to transition. I was scared for the future when I was sick because I could no longer work like I use to and had to make many lifestyle changes. I realized that through my own experiences and knowledge received while I was sick helped me understand how the products and treatments work with the body as an Esthetician to better serve my clients.

Chiquita , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got in the Spa industry because I wanted to promote more self-care. I realized in the United States, we are always on the go and many struggled to slow down. I didn’t realize how bad of a toll it takes on the body until it happened to me, especially when I thought I was healthy.
I received my Esthetician’s License and I preform body sculpting doing PureSculpt Ice and Woody Therapy. The Ice treatment is a revolutionary product that combines botanical herbs, clay, luscious & essential oils. The product helps expel toxins for a detox and encourages the bodies natural process to burn fat using thermogenesis. It can convert stored fat into energy, reducing measurements, firming, toning, detoxifying and targeting unwanted fat.
Wood Therapy has been around for decades and used for therapeutic purposes. It activates the lymphatic system to detox the body, speeds up the metabolism, tightens and tones, relaxes muscles, relocates volume, & improves faster recovery.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During my wellness journey, I could have given up and went on disability for the rest of my life. I decided not to let the decline in my health and physical abilities stop me. I felt I had more to give and more life to live. I went out on faith and set a goal to figured out how I could work with my current situation and help others in the process. I’m coming up on two years in the skincare industry and I’m loving it, learning, and growing everyday.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I usually like to have a well thought out plan. I thought I was being safe and making the right decisions in my late twenties and early thirties.
I realized I had to let go of what I thought was the plan for my life in general. I had to let go of a career and other plans I had while living a certain lifestyle. I had to let go and get uncomfortable in order for me to keep moving and accomplish anything on my new skincare and wellness career journey.
I would like to encourage others that are feeling stuck in a current situation to know that it’s okay to change paths. You might not know everything or have it all planned out but sometimes you just have to start and it will all fall in to place.
