Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chip Chism. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Chip thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My friends and I write and star in a Horror Hosted show called Nightmare Theatre. We are on PBS. We are on in several states and we are available on the PBS app. For years we did everything ourselves. We filmed it in an old fishing cottage and the camera was propped up on books. When we moved to PBS it was very different. We walked into the studio and saw three cameras, lighting techs, sound guys, teleprompters, everything. It was quite a change. That was in 2018 with Season 1. Season 4 concludes, locally, on Saturday, February 17th.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My friend Mike Ensley and I have been working on projects for over 30 years. We had a college radio show, we did a magazine, film fests, a stint as a professional wrestler and manager (he was the wrestler, I was the manager). We are both big fans of Horror Hosts and one day we said “let’s do it!” We bought a digital camera and started filming. Mike did all the editing and tech work back in those days. Editing was hard back in those days (2001) but Mike got it done!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Since we are on all over the US we get emails from everywhere. Its really cool when a guy you will never meet in NYC sends you an email saying how much he enjoys what you do.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Honestly, my goal is to make my wife laugh. She’s there for every part of the creative process and I trust her comedic and artistic judgement.
