We were lucky to catch up with Chinweizu Oham recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chinweizu, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

I am currently working on my most meaningful project. Since graduating, I have wanted to create something that I can share with the world, but it took me a while to figure out what. In July, while out at dinner with a couple of friends, I went to school with, our back and forth led us to come up with an idea for a talk show that would be shared on social media. The talk show, titled “Chin’s Way,” will follow me interviewing various friends on topics we have completely opposing views of. We plan for it to be very lighthearted, so the topics are things such as nature and team Edward vs Jacob, things we can talk and laugh about. My friends and I are using the various skills we learned while getting our BFAs to create this project. It is the first major thing I have worked on that is mine and I am so excited for the world to see it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am an actor first. I first fell in love with acting in the 5th grade when I joined the film club in school, and we created a short film in which I got to star in. After that, I spent time working in the crew in various productions throughout middle and high school, as well as joining the film club in school. Doing all of this grew my passion for entertainment. I decided to pursue getting my BFA in Acting, which I was able to receive in August of 2023 from the New York Film Academy. But while I am an actor, I am also a creator. I have always wanted to create something to entertain people. My greatest goal is to create a successful comedy TV show. But we all have to start from somewhere. I started posting little skits on TikTok, and now I am in the production of a comedy talk show to be shared on social media. My ultimate goal in life is to entertain people, and my journey has been hard at times. It is not easy to break into the industry. But I believe as I continue to work hard, I will be able to get there.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding part is getting to create content for others to enjoy. I love to make people happy, and this career path I’ve chosen is a great way to do that. Seeing people positively react to things I have created is so pleasing and makes me feel content and proud of myself. It makes me want to keep going and to keep proving to myself and others that I can do this.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My goal is to be a successful household name in the entertainment industry in both Nigeria and the US. I want to be able to create what I want and still be able to take time for myself and be with my family and friends. I want to be able to work in both Nigeria and the US consistently. And also to build up the next generation of entertainers in Nigeria. To show them that they can break from the mold and become something great by doing what they love. This industry is not easy at all, but I truly believe anyone who wants to be in it can. I want to keep pushing in my career so that I can reach the level where others see me and look up to me.
