Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chincia Kenner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chincia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Yes, I’m a record label executive and music artist who treats the music industry like a business. I concentrate on allowing myself and encouraging music artist to utilize all of the various skillsets which they have learned that are considered to be a valuable asset to the music. industry. Focus on selling music projects which you allow to make products from every angle of the industry. I don’t focus on streaming and touring as being the primary sources. I research the market, and I focus on what areas can my music be utilized where the earnings can be maximized. My goal is not to wait until it’s offered. I want to build it myself.
Chincia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always loved music, fashion, art and acting since I was kid. I received awards for competions, in each one of these categories. I knew that I always wanted to make a career out of it. Just in a different way. Most labels would like for the artist to focus on music primary. But, I wanted to add a corporate structure to it. I started studying all of the roles, responsibilities that were behind the scenes with music, and their salary ranges. Then I started studying the products that I could create with a music being not just out front . But also behind it. I wanted to create products which were more in alignment with the music of today, and the future. My primary job is technology, and I have 30plus years in the corporate industry where I have performed multiple roles. I decided to incorporate those roles into music. I’m working on creating udemy courses, music audio books, creating video games. I also loved art, I enjoyed arts and crafts and drawing cartoons characters. I have a NFT character which is based on myself and it’s associated to a theme , where each theme is linked to my music and sold on physical products. This in addition to me building my own music metaverse. My goal was to focus on the right now and the future, and build products that could make music while you sleep. The projects are rendered in an agile way. In addition to this I offer music management, and consulting which teaches my clients on how to start their own business with a smaller budget and build from that. I solve their road blocks that would prevent from them from starting right now by teaching them strategies, helping them set goals. I also partner with other small business to bring them business and help them to grow their brand. Recently I created an explainer video on my You Tube Channel which explains more about my business and brand. You can check out the link here: https://youtu.be/NdYOIYIYa8M . Since the music is behind these products, all of my music is diverse from various music genre’s. I focus on making music for the ages of 18 and above. Recently, I earned two billboard awards from airplay, and the majority of my songs have charted in my music catalog. They are all original songs, written and performed by me. I decided to trademark my name Intelligent Diva as the brand since I’m the creator of it, and I’m funding all of my music projects. I would like for my clients to know that I enjoy making products which everyone can relate to. If you are not a fan of music, then people would be definitely like to learn how to become entrepreneurs using their skillsets to sell products. You can’t let fear stop you. I want to create the gifts that keep on giving, So, I focused them around multiple niches where I have the most experience. I work in the field of technology, so you know I can’t leave that out. Being virtual cut’s down on a lot of expenses and risk. But, it can also generate income while you sleep.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn not trust everything you see on social media, and that when someone says they want to help you , pay attention to the way they do business. Sometimes people don’t want to help you they want to help themselves. In the his industry , you have some people who have determined they want to have a business and they have specific sources of income they want it to come from. So they will paint a picture online to make it appear they have connections and resources to help you. Their goal is to get you to spend money with them. If you are not careful, you will fall for it, and spend your money which can eventually become wasteful spending. They don’t care about your goals. They just care about your budget. Before you do business get it in writing. track everything they promise you to see if they deliver. Let them know when they don’t deliver. They will omit things purposely to deceive you into spending money. Then if you don’t see what you were promised, they want to say it’s your fault. No, remember the FTC Act is your protection, and keep everything documented for your protection and pay your vendors where there is traceability. Once they show you it’s only about the money , Don’t give them anymore chances to swindle you out of money.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital came from a line of credit which I had. I continued to build on to that by working two jobs and paying off what I used so that I could reuse it if needed. I invested my own income and then any funds that I earned I put it back into the business.
