Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chimele George. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chimele, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents raised me in what I feel is the most uniquely great places in the country. I was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland where the middle class still exists; it’s very diverse; there is a great educational system; and all walks of life are nearby. My upbringing prepared me to be in almost any environment comfortably and easily relate to others.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always had an interest in the arts. My earliest aspiration was to be an animator for Disney. My drawing led to a love for filmmaking and I was determined to be the world’s greatest director. You won’t believe me but I had the still wrap-around camera motion idea from “The Matrix” before the movie came out lol. (True story) My mom was encouraging about my dreams so she put me in camps that cultivated those talents. While in high school I was introduced to acting for the first time and absolutely loved it. I, like a lot of people, spent time in the mirror acting out scenes from my favorite movies but once I was given the opportunity to actually act I was sold. I continued from college and into adulthood to hone my craft as a filmmaker through getting on any set that I could in any crew position that I could but I always kept an eye on fully diving into acting one day. After cementing myself in the film world, and even starting my own production company, I finally took the plunge by auditioning for my first play. I landed the role. Over forty film and tv projects later firmly entrenched in the career that I love with multiple exciting projects on the horizon. I think what sets me apart from other actors is my experience both in front of and behind the camera as well as my experience in post production. A thorough understanding of the entire process gives me a unique perspective that allows me to bring the best overall performance to the screen.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot when I decided to move out to Los Angeles. Prior to moving here I was an entrepreneur with my own video production and marketing company. I had my stable of regular clients and I was very comfortable but I always wanted to get back to acting. I had dabbled in it years earlier and by the time I was ready to make the move the bug had hit me really bad. I was encouraged by some roles that I booked just before moving. It gave me some of the validation that I need to take the plunge into switching careers and I haven’t looked back.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist and a creative is seeing the creativity you imagined appear on screen. From there if it resonates with me I know it will resonate with others. Knowing that others enjoy it is an added bonus.
