We were lucky to catch up with Chillz Muzik recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chillz Muzik, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I literally was risking my life every time I stepped on stage to perform. Which perfectly captured my unorthodox journey to picking up the mic as a profession. I have been taking massive risks my whole life, majority of time without ever really giving them a second though or understanding how deep of an impact one decision can truly make. Being a Kawasaki Disease survivor at the young age of ten, I knew my path would be uphill with lots of spirals. Because of the damage done to my arteries from the dis-ease, my doctors told me to never compete in sports or do anything strenuous. Needless to say I didn’t listen well. Literally a day after having a heart attack when I was 12, I went to the basketball court to get some shots in. Until this moment I never even realized how crazy that truly is. So you can image when I had the opportunity to finally perform my music on a stage, in front of friends and a group of fans, how deep the moment really was for me. It was a risk I’ll never regret taking. An uncharted path I’ll never regret paving. I had gotten to the point in my life where I had to bet on myself, and to me, it paid off.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Bless up everyone! My name is Jamille aka “Chillz Muzik”. I’m a Hip-Hop recording artist, ghostwriter, homeschool teacher, and aspiring herbalist. Music has always felt like an outlet for me to express and be free. When I was younger I use to record practice songs on a small stereo. I would record on cassettes and just have the most fun with it. A couple of my homies started to take me to this small studio spot, and it was there where I made my first group mixtape. After that music was kind of on the back burner for me, until my soul partner Brittney inspired me to get back involved with creating. I connected with my guy Steve Fry and together we carved out my debut mixtape “The Ice Age”.
The project took off in my hometown and really gave me the confidence to go after music on a higher level.
I started rapping with another MC from my hometown named Jordan Harter. Together we created a group called Prospectz Nation. The shows and opportunities continued to grow leading up to us signing our first single deal with Guin Records. In 2018 our single “WAVE” caught on and landed us a place on the Billboard Top 100 Club & Dance chart.
The months following were a blessing and a curse for me. Two months after landing on Billboard, I suffered an almost life ending heart attack. I was life flighted and found out that one of my arteries were completely blocked. The only reason I survived is because my heart had been creating something rare called collateral arteries. Basically my heart intuitively knew something wrong was happening and began creating a new path for the blood to flow. It took over a year to feel remotely close to myself again. During that time the group disassembled. It deeply hurt to see something I fought so hard to create and literally put my life on the line for fade away. I couldn’t shake music out of my mind tho, and as soon as I started to feel better, I began creating again.
Behind the scenes throughout my musical journey I was homeschooling my two children, Davinity and Desiyon. I was a teacher by day, artist by night. So I always had a lot on my schedule. Throughout my teaching journey I learned so much about growth, patience, and self awareness. We studied deeply about consciousness, proper nutrition, and natural healing medicines. Which has continued to be a passion of mine. One day I will dive more deeply into helping others with natural remedies.
I think what sets me apart from most artist and people in general is my perseverance. I’ve been overcoming serious health challenges since the age of 10. Created a path for myself in music when there was no road map or guidances.
I bet on myself when very few believed in me. I came from a poverty broken household, so I had no start up money when I graduated, no car, and no financial plan. Somehow I made it work. I grew myself while growing a family.
I grew a craft while growing a business. I never gave up, and that’s all thanks to my faith in Jah.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Absolutely. Rasta (reggae music) has played an enormous roll in my life. It brought me to Jah’s front door and invited me in.
Another major game changer for me was reading the book “Outwitting The Devil” by Napoleon Hill.
It really seemed to cast away the illusion of our social society and brought about a whole world of transformation to the way I see life.
Additionally listening to talks from Mooji, Alan Watts, Kobe Bryant (rest easy), and Patrick Bet-David have continued to make major positive impacts on my life.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are the future. I believe NFTs will be around for a long time and that their true value will only grow as this world dives deeper and deeper into a virtual reality. The worlds technology and A.I. seems to be vastly increasing everyday. Major companies are heavily invested into the meta verse and the concepts of NFTs. Usually these giant corporate companies don’t miss the mark on massive investments. I also think NFTs will vastly help artists grow and give them an alternate decentralized way to share with their fans, grow community, and build their brands. I have worked on music for several different NFT developers and crypto platforms. If I can tell you one thing, it’s that these people aren’t messing around. The communities are real and very supportive.
