Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chill Moody. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chill , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents gave me grace. They showed me at an early age they trusted me, trusted my decision making, trusted that “I would figure it out”. The support that came from them just giving me the space to learn, fail, succeed, fail again, all of that it means the world to me. When I graduated college I sat with them both and explained that I would take a year off to just follow my passion and they gave me their blessing. They never stood in my way, and that was the greatest way they could have ever helped me honestly.
Chill , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Chill Moody. A hip-hop artist, entrepreneur, and community builder from West Philadelphia. My career started with music, but over the years, it’s grown into something much bigger: a lifestyle rooted in culture, creativity, and purpose.
I got into the music industry with a DIY mentality. Writing, recording, and releasing my own material while building a loyal fanbase through live shows and grassroots marketing. Music opened the door, but I always knew I wanted to create more than just songs. I wanted to build nicethings (literally and figuratively). That phrase became my brand and my mantra. It’s about excellence, balance, good energy, and doing work that lasts.
Today, I’m the founder of several businesses under the nicethings umbrella, which includes:
nicethingsMUSIC – our independent record label supporting dope, independent artists.
nicethingsBEVERAGES – featuring drinks like nicethingsBEER, nicethingsKOMBUCHA, Chateau nicethings (our Red Wine collab with City Winery), and our RTD cocktail, nicethings Tequila Transfusion, which also supports our nonprofit (We Golf Now).
nicethingsAPPAREL – streetwear rooted in culture and storytelling.
We Golf Now – our nonprofit breaking down barriers in golf for Black and Brown youth.
What ties all of these together is the culture. Whether it’s a song, a hoodie, a beverage, or a cannabis product, I’m building things with intention. Creating things I wish existed. Things that speak to my community and solve real problems: representation, access, wellness, creativity, and ownership.
What sets me apart is that I’m not just slapping my name on products, I’m in the trenches lol. I build from the ground up, with the same care and authenticity I brought to my music. I understand my audience because I am the audience. I’m creating for the everyday person who values quality, who moves with purpose, and who wants to enjoy the nicethings in life while staying grounded.
What I’m most proud of? Honestly, it’s the fact that I’ve been able to remain independent while making real impact. Being named Philadelphia’s Music Ambassador by City Council, starting a nonprofit that’s changing lives, and launching brands that create jobs and joy for others, and through it all continue to make my family proud, those are the wins that matter.
At the end of the day, I want people to know this: nicethings is bigger than me. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a movement. And everything we do is built on culture, creativity, and community.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Authenticity has been everything for me. From day one, well maybe like day 12 because some of my old raps were insane lol, but early on I’ve led with who I am, never trying to be anything I’m not. That consistency, that honesty, that realness, that’s what built my reputation and kept it solid over time. Whether I’m dropping music, launching a new product, throwing an event, or pushing a mission-driven initiative, people know it’s going to be authentically Chill.
It’s not about trends or gimmicks. It’s about showing up for my community, telling our stories, and creating things that feel true to who we are. I think that’s why people continue to support me across all these different ventures, from hip-hop to beverages to golf. They’re not just buying into a product; they’re buying into a person and a purpose they can trust.
That trust, that real connection with my audience, that’s what’s given me longevity in this game.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The covid crisis was a time I feel like we all had to pivot, in business and in life honestly. In 2019 I had just signed with a new touring agency, me and Donn T (we had a group called &More Chill Moody and Donn T) were touring heavy! With no signs of slowing down. Then everything changed. From 100 to 0 real quick. Long story short, it was in the pandemic I “found” golf. I’ve always loved the sport, but never had the time nor the means to really get involved like I wanted to. Fast forward I now run a golf centric non-profit, host an annual golf tournament, and I have the best RTD Canned Cocktail (nicethings Tequila Transfusion) in the game. Pivots are necessary, scary, but necessary.
