We were lucky to catch up with Chikeeh Talker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chikeeh, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I always knew I would end up owning a business. My life has geared me towards being a leader and a boss of my own successes. When I decided to take the plunge and start off on my own after being very dependent on a 9 to 5 job, it was nerve wracking to say the least! I had blind faith in the beginning let’s say! Haha I quit…. took the plunge….created my brand and never looked back. Sometimes risks are scary, but it’s the scary things that really feel like you’re living.

Chikeeh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I coined myself as a wedding designer based on the fact that after years of expertise, a wedding planner or coordinator wasn’t dynamic enough. I personally curate event visions from mood boards to fruition. Decor to vendors, venues and websites, florals and everything in between.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Consistency. Being a “yes’ person without being a pushover. Being genuine and having good business practices.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Oh covid. That dreaded year. Hospitality died. I was no different. It was very hard refunding over a year of booked events but I knew it was the right thing to do. I’m still feeling the wrath of this but my name is held intact. I seriously considered not coming back into the field,…. as I’m sure i wasn’t the only one. We’re still here though!!!
