Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chichi Mejias. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chichi, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If i could go back in time and started my creative career sooner, i would definitely do so. I would say i started actually pursuing my creative ideas 3 years ago, 2021. I say that for multiple reasons. One being I’m constantly seeing ideas i thought of a while ago become a big thing after someone else started it or pushed it and I’m stuck thinking “ damn it , i should’ve went for it! “ Another reason being I honestly think the younger you are when starting out gives you a little more advantage as your more receptacle in gaining information and it also gives you more time to learn and master your craft. I think i definitely would have been a little farther with my talk show had i embraced my creativity and started sooner.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Community Health Worker & Peer Specialist ( CHW / CPS ) along with a Talk Show Host , Community Liaison , and Serial Entrepreneur. I do a bunch of work in the community volunteering for different organizations as well as passing along resources and information. I also have a Talk Show called Thee #ChichiKnows Show which covers everything in Philly and its surrounding ares in regards to music, politics, community, children, etc.
I got into all this by simply showing up to a program Drexel was offering ( Drexel’s Department of Social Justice and Non Violence ) and it taught me so much that i had to share the information. So i started volunteering with different organizations and meeting all types of people which of course taught me a bunch of other things and lessons and that’s how the show started. I wanted to share everything i knew , #ChichiKnows
What sets me apart is my heart , my determination and my loyalty. I live by MRL: Morals , Loyalty , and Respect. Thats why you either love me or hate me. And i stand on that!
Im most proud of the fact that Thee #ChichiKnows Show just celebrated a year of hard work thanks to my co ~host Toisann and Yo Astro. And I want people to know it’s not easy at all. But i love this for real and I’m gonna do something with this that no one is ready for. So book your interview now.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Putting other people on and really just supporting and showing love. I get so much joy out of just helping others so when i get to do a interviews for an artist and you see them literally just enjoying being them , i love that i was able to create that for them.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Im sure a lot of people see my breakdowns and all the money i spend on equipment and traveling and wonder “ what’s the point and how does this benefit you.” But it benefits me because this IS me. This is what i love. Sh*t , it has my name on it. And at the end of the day the smiles and love i put out and get back is reward enough. So if you can’t understand it, that’s why you’re there and in here.
