We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chiara Dolzani. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chiara below.
Chiara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Over the years of my career as a Veterinarian and Dog Trainer, I have met many dogs and their owners and have lived their wonderful and heartwarming stories.
This is the story of 5 wonderful white puppies I met at Stardogs, a premium dog daycare in Los Angeles. They were rescued over the years by a kind woman who truly loves dogs. The last one she adopted was the youngest and smallest. I trained him everyday teaching him basic obedience and tricks. He wanted to be a dog actor… he was very smart! Sadly, one day he died and this episode really broke my heart. I can say he was my favorite one and I considered him like my own dog.
Each of these dogs had many behavioral problems, including separation anxiety, barking, snapping, leash pulling, skin allergies and nutritional problems.
I helped the owner with them, working on their behavior and giving her advice about their health and mental well-being.
I remember every time the owner took them to Stardogs or put them back in the car they would bark like crazy and lash out at each other. Obviously this was embarrassing for the owner and he wasn’t safe for the dogs. I explained to her how to deal with the dogs when they get in and out of the car and after a couple of lessons they are now just perfect and calm! I have helped her build mutual understanding and respect with her puppies.
I absolutely adore these puppies and have built a wonderful relationship with all the crew. I used to see them every day at Stardogs and every morning they were just running in. It was so sad when I had to go back to Italy and say goodbye. Every time I go back to Los Angeles I visit them and they can recognize me from afar and they are so happy!
Chiara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a veterinarian, dog trainer and therapist with more than 20 years of experience working with dogs. I offer a virtual consulting service for the dogs’ mental and physical well-being.
I owned a veterinary clinic in Italy and in 2017 I moved to Los Angeles and founded Stardogs: a premium dog daycare, training and spa.
Leveraging my experience in most canine breeds and challenges, I provide dog parents with personalized guidance on aspects of your dog’s life ranging from mental well-being to exercise to nutrition. Provides guidance on lifelong happiness with your furry family member, supports your first introduction to a puppy, from selecting a breed that matches your personality, to preparing to raise your dog through different life stages, to effectively adapting to conditions your dog’s mental and physical needs.
Thanks to my holistic approach and the European landscape I grew up in, I offer dog parents a different perspective on their dogs.
My 360-degree knowledge of dogs both from a veterinary and dog trainer point of view, allows me to help and support parents with their dogs in all their aspects, from health, behavior, mental and physical well-being.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Each dog has its own history, personality, behavior, needs and desires. Every dog owner is different and has a personal approach and relationship with their dog. Every situation, family, environment, is unique.
Only experience and practice over the years can make the difference. Being a veterinarian and dog trainer helps me understand dogs in their entire physical, mental and behavioral situation.
Empathy with parents and their dogs is a key success factor of my business. In this way I able to help them to strengthen their relationship with their dogs and live their best life together.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
I sold Stardogs, the dog daycare I founded in Los Angeles. It was very sad but I had to go back to Italy and it wasn’t easy for me to manage it from so far away. Luckily, I found two wonderful men who love dogs. I was sure they would be able to carry on in the business as I would and love dogs as much as I do. Selling your business to someone you like and who loves what you do is the most important thing. Being transparent and sincere is essential. Offering a valid and trusted team is strategic.
