Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chiara Candia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chiara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After I graduated I immediatly started looking for a job as a Fine Arts teacher (art history, painting techniques, etc.). After almost a year of many attempts I deepened my knowledge about the world of 3D. During my studies I participated in a lesson about 3D printing and thought that I would never be part of that world. In 2020 I met Crosslances and was intrigued by its products. I became one of its students and, after a short time, Hera’stone was born.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2020 I met Crosslances and deepened my knowledge of 3D printing. After a few months, Hera’stone was born. <<What do you make?>> I am often asked. I always answer: <<Everything that is possible>>. My first campaign on the Kickstarter platform was about a team for a board game. Later I made a scenario. Recently I have moved into design for home accessories.
My key word is : variety. I never liked to focus on one thing. From home accessories I can go back to board games or I can invent something totally original. I want my clients to have fun during the campaigns and I want to have a lot of interaction with them. Based on the campaign theme, I ask them to write their ideas so that I can realize them and enrich the campaign.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
“Focus on one thing.” This is the lesson I had to unlearn. After I graduated I thought that the teaching career was the only way for me. So I threw money, time and soul to become a teacher. Despite my great efforts I could not get any work. After I discovered the world of 3D I realized that I had to look around, that I had to open my mind, that there were and there always are other possibilities.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I produce my products. Thanks to the teachings of Crosslances, I learned how to use programs to produce and present my products. I have never asked anyone else to realize them.
The most effective way to learn is to spend days in front of those programs, do lots of exercises following the advice that are given. Start with simple shapes and then move to richer and more complex compositions.
