We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cheyenne Reed a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cheyenne, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.

While I primarily focus on the conventional aspects of bookkeeping, I also bring a unique element to my practice that sets me apart. I incorporate spirituality and magic into my work to help my clients.

Drawing upon spiritual practices, I tap into a different realm of understanding and energy. This isn’t about casting spells or performing rituals, which I do plenty of myself, but rather using mindfulness, intuition, and a deeper connection to help guide my clients through their financial journeys. It’s about bringing a sense of clarity, calm, and positivity to the process.

This aspect of my approach often allows me to offer perspectives that go beyond numbers. It’s about infusing a sense of harmony and balance into their financial lives. Whether it’s through visualization techniques, mindfulness exercises, or simply channeling positive energy, I’ve found that this holistic approach resonates with many clients and helps them navigate their financial challenges with a clearer mindset.

Cheyenne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m someone who cherishes the beauty of simplicity and the magic found in the everyday moments. My life’s journey has been intertwined with my high school sweetheart, and we’ve been married for six wonderful years. Choosing to be childfree has allowed us to embrace our individual pursuits and build a life centered around our shared passions.

At home, we’ve created a small haven on our one-acre homestead in Indiana, surrounded by nature’s tranquility. Our furry companions—two cats and a dog—add an abundance of love and playfulness to our daily lives. Embracing a more self-sustaining lifestyle, we tend to our little piece of land, cultivating a sense of connection with the earth through gardening and tending to the land.

In addition to my life’s beautiful simplicity, there’s another facet that adds depth and meaning to my existence—I identify as a witch. Embracing this aspect of spirituality and connection with nature has been an integral part of my journey.

My journey into the realm of bookkeeping and finance is not only shaped by my educational background and professional experiences but also by a sage piece of advice from my father. Growing up, he would often humorously remark that there are two certainties in life—Death and Taxes. While the medical field didn’t align with my calling, the resonance of those words stayed with me.

Fueled by the understanding that money plays a pivotal role in everyone’s life, I chose to navigate the intricate world of accounting. This decision was not merely a career choice; it was a conscious alignment of my skills and interests.

I worked in corporate accounting for a decade before deciding there had to be more. In 2020, I fell in love with gardening. At that point in time I knew I needed to find a way to garden more and work less while still providing value to those around me. I have had a passion for helping people start businesses for years and thought bookkeeping might be my calling. The transition into starting my bookkeeping firm wasn’t just a career shift; it was a purposeful journey that allowed me to live what I call my Magical Life.

Over the last 3 years of owning my business I have gone from offering strictly bookkeeping services to an entire list. All of my services are remote and currently, I offer bookkeeping, tax prep, judgement free money coaching and notary services.

When someone hires me as their bookkeeper, I am able to give them valuable time back to do what brings them joy. I also help my clients create magic in their money by understanding the numbers.

I also get the opportunity to be the host of the Money & Magic podcast.

Once I started aligning my brand with my authentic self, business became easier. I started showing people how to incorporate magic into the mundane. I tend to sprinkle magic into everting I do, so being a client of mine means they get a little magic too.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I feel like my entire business has been unlearning lessons. When I started I knew I wanted to be remote only. This is not something that is common in my industry. I come from a family of 2 working parents who both had to leave the house to go to work every day. When I no longer had to clock in for someone else, I found myself wondering how to spend my time.

I was making more money working less hours and society tells you not to slow down. That is when I started working through what is my magical life. If money was no object and I didn’t have to work a 40 hour work week, how did I want to spend my time. I started reading more, hiking and kayaking in the summer, and found more time for myself.

Unlearning the hustle culture and trying to figure out what brings me joy has been a hill that I am slowly reaching the top of.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?

I am an advocate of multiple income streams in any industry. As a millennial, I enjoy technology and use it to my advantage.

My main source of income is bookkeeping. I offer tax prep seasonally, and have several other services that can be added on to bookkeeping. I offer online courses as another form of income. This year, I am planning a women’s business retreat and plan to continue those each year and grow them to be income producing.

I am sort of a serial entrepreneur and am always open to making money in a new way. When I named my business Abundance Alchemy, I did not want to have it narrowed down to one service. I wanted it to be an umbrella of many services and offerings.
