We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cheyenne Pajardo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cheyenne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Along with taking care of clients, taking care of our team is one of the most important things we can do as leaders. Looking back on your journey, did you have a boss that was really great? Maybe you can tell us about that boss and what made them a wonderful person to work for?
Candice Kemp. There is something so unique about growing up with someone and then being fortunate enough to work for them. Candice was one of my very first dance teachers at the age of 2. She is the reason that I not only learned how to dance, but also why I still love dancing. In 2013, I asked if I could shadow her as part of my senior project. I wanted to learn the ins & outs of owning a studio, being a teacher, and also what it meant to lead a group of young minds. She graciously took me under her wing and later onboarded me as part of her teaching staff. My years working for her gave me a new appreciation for the human being she is. She is not only kind and compassionate, but she is also driven and works tirelessly until her craft is perfected. A good boss tells you how to do something. A great boss gives you the tools you need to succeed and shows you how to implement them. Candice reminds me daily what it means to dive head first into things I love and to look ahead at all the magnificent things I can and will achieve. There are not enough words to express my love and gratitude for her.
Cheyenne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like many, I wear multiple hats. I am a lover of Jesus, an avid reader and learner, a mental health advocate, a dancer and dance teacher, a content creator, and an author. I’ve been fortunate enough to lay roots and share my love of all things in Europe, Maryland, California, and most recently, Florida. Let’s talk about life as a content creator today!
I’m very blessed to have been born a creative. I see life in multiple shades, mixed with bright colors and dark accents. As a creative, I believe it’s my job to highlight and share life in this manor, which is why I enjoy content creation! We live in a world now where social media is so prevalent–it’s the first thing we look at in the morning and the last thing we see before going to bed. With that being said, it’s important to watch what we consume. So, I tailor my content to spreading happiness, sunshine, and love.
My most used platform is YouTube. On #ACheyMoment, I create long video vlogs to share my recent adventures, as well as my day to day. I create shorts to speak about books and Jesus! I’m not a massive fan of “niches,” as many creators are, because I want to reach as many people as possible, not just those who align with me in thoughts and interests. Some of my most favorite interactions are actually with those who don’t agree with me–it provides opportunities to grow and challenge my thinking!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
In short, I want to be relatable. I want to be a voice that others hear and say, “Yes!! I’m so happy someone has said this.” or even a voice that others hear and say, “She’s wrong. This is what I think.” One of the most beautiful things about life is that we are privileged enough to have human interaction. We are granted the gift of communication and should value our ability to listen. My goal in creating content is to reach people. It’s to advocate for those who may be too shy to say how they’re feeling or what they’re thinking. It’s to start a dialogue when opposing views are presented and to leave that conversation with a better understanding.
I’m always looking for better ways to improve my creative endeavors to reflect this mission.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be yourself. This can be seen as cliché or as something “so simple,” but the truth is…humans are just looking for real and genuine beings. It is so easy to be someone else and to create a different persona on social media. I’m a big believer that human beings can detect when someone is being inauthentic…even through a screen. My “secret” and advice for building a presence is to post the things you like and the people who align with you will be drawn to you.
Who you are matters. There is no one quite like you and that is your superpower.
