We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheyanne Witter . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheyanne below.
Cheyanne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
While I was in college I had the pleasure of being taught and mentored by many amazing artists and professors in various creative fields. Through my whole four years, though, two of these people stuck out the most to me as great leaders. One was a teacher in the Visual Studies department of my school, and the other was my boss at my Studio Monitor position in our Photography studios.
Both of these beautiful women were funny, passionate, and very open and honest about their feelings and opinions but not in a way that was ever rude or overbearing. They both were always willing to share their wealth of knowledge with anybody and gave great advice about the art industry. They’re power houses in their respectful departments and integral parts of the continual function of that school.
They both inspire me to this day.

Cheyanne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Cheyanne and I’m a Photographer / Videographer from Florida. I have a bachelor’s degree in Visual Studies and two minors, one in Photography & Digital Imaging and the other in Business of Art & Design from Ringling College of Art & Design. I’m currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area. I tend to create things more along the lines of fashion photography and fashion film. But I also learned portraiture and product photography.
I tend to be inspired by things like fashion magazines, current media, and other artists work.
In the future I’d love to get into the fashion and media industries and create content for different brands as well as collaborate with other artists.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of creating for a living is that I am significantly more free to voice my own opinions and ideas than I feel most 9-5 jobs would normally allow. There tends to be much more opportunity for me to do whatever I feel is best and to feel satisfied and fulfilled with my work. I love being able to come up with an idea, flesh it out, plan the shoot from start to finish, shoot something until I’m happy with it, and edit the final product into something that makes me proud!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe the best way to support creatives is to simply engage with their work in whatever way possible. If someone creates content and publishes it online you can watch that content and like it or share it around. If someone publishes something physical you can buy the product or even just talk about it with others and share links to it online for others to engage with. Or even just spreading and artists name or website around could help significantly. If there’s and artist that you enjoy, simply shouting them out or remembering their name and bringing them up in related conversations is a great way to support them and their work.
