We recently connected with Cheyanne Jamison and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheyanne, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Being are creator whether that is being a content creator or just tapping into your own personal creative talents I’ve learned is not a taught skill it’s more of you unlocking another freer side to yourself. Now this journey can be sped up or enhanced by seeing thing or being around other creatives, but everyone has the ability to be a creative it is just a matter of trust yourself to free that side of you. One thing that I would have to say to anyone wanting to become a creative in any aspect which may sound cliche is let go of fear. In any journey fear is the number one obstacle. Fear of not being good enough, looking crazy, or not initially receiving an instant outpouring of support from others. Skills that I would say are most essential is have a passion for what you are doing, be opened minded, and to remain consistent with the product or content you create. The only possible obstacle that gendered me at times would be myself in the very beginning the loathing thoughts of self doubt or just not being sure of myself at first or believing that you have to have every single thing together before you embark on the journey when honestly the key is to just take a leap of faith and begin. Creating starts with you and ultimately ends with you. You and your did belief in your ability to create great things and bring you ideas to life are solely the deciding factor.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is cheyanne Jamison and I am an active duty United States Navy sailor and a part time content creator. I got into YouTube and content creating simply by being inspired by other and wanting to carve a line solely for myself not only to showcase my unique military lifestyle but to context to others and be related to them through my raw and honest content. I’m just a girl with a camera going through real life and while it may be entertaining it’s giving people real content versus the sometimes over exaggerated lifestyles displayed on social media. I am most proud of me trusting the process and taking a leap into new territory with content creating and celebrating small wins with engagement from others while also not letting obstacles discourage me from remain consistent and enjoying the craft itself. The thing I want reader to know most is if you are contemplating start a business or creating content is you are no different from any other successful person on this earth you can do anything through faith, consistency, and pure willpower, so get to it!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your audience on social media is by far the hardest task simple because the public can be so fickle and now with everything being so accessible it leaves viewers with attention span of gold fish. The most important thing with building your social media audience is POST! No really post to remain relevant. If you are consistently on a person’s algorithm it’s unintentionally focus then to interact with your content. You have to stay consistent with posting so now you’re are a dependable source of entertainment for the viewer which is important and the more you allow them to see the subconsciously build a closeness with you which eventually manifests into support over time.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn with building a following across multiple platforms is your following on one app does not automatically determine the fill you will have on another. I say this meaning if you have a high number of followers on instagram it doesn’t necessarily mean if you started a YouTube for example doesn’t mean those followers will automatically follow over to that platform. Confusing right? Each app is its own individual platform and it has to be treated as such. They all have their own diverse audiences and they all have different attention span and preferences of content. I had to unlearn thinking that the support you receive spreads evenly across the apps. This is a key factor that no one shared with me it’s a learning curve of creating I had to realize through trial and error while creating.
