Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Che’Won Futrell-Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Che’Won thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Chef: Cooking has always been 2nd nature since I was 7y/o.. I’ve always been creative and ppl would always tell me I need my own restaurant and to sell dinners. It sound good, but 1 person actually gave me a business plan and that gave me the kick to put it into action back in 2019. I started w/ small catering, cakes, and meal preps and my business took off after my 1st pop up shop. Nursing: I gave myself a year to find a school in which I can attend at night because I was working doing Oral Surgery w/ Dental Anesthesia during the day. I felt I was at my peak and wasn’t growing anymore. In march of 2020 went home to Va for a funeral, caught covid, and ended up registering for school. A visit turned into 2yrs for nursing school. I graduated February this year, 2022, as a RN and in May w/ my degree in nursing and obtained my compact/multistate license in August 2022.
Finance: best friend owns multiple financial institutions in various states and I’m always looking for ways to grow and build my resume/credentials. I decided in early 2022 to become apart of his team, but not until I obtained my nursing license (1 goal at a time lol). Now that I have my nursing license, I’ve literally just completed my 1st training as a professional financial advisor/ tax preparer. By Years end I will be apart of Millz Financial Group Atlanta and owner of Millz Financial Group Va
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Che’Won Futrell-Bell, RN, DAANCE, CDA-EDDA, CPFDA, CEKG, CPT, CPCT. I am a Chef, Registered Nurse, Dental Anesthesia Tech, Certified Dental Asst. W/ Expanded Duties, Certified Preventive Functions Dental Auxiliary, Certified Electrocardiogram Tech, Certified Phlebotomist, Certified Patient Care Tech and Tax Professional. I work as a Critical Care/ICU & Critical Care inpatient burn nurse. I also do big events w/ my team and food truck Temptations food truck and catering business Chew’s Kitchen (IG:Chefgordonramseyjr IG:Chews_Kitchen) I’m also employed w/ Millz Financial Group Atl location (TheMillzFinancialGroup) and will own Millz Financial Group Va by years end.
I was born and raised in Hampton, Va and relocated to Georgia in 2014. Every year since 2013 I’ve earn another license/certification/ degree and now hold over 23..
I started cooking at the age of 7 and only got better. I always had a niche for healthcare, “as long as I’m helping ppl ” was my motto. I started as a Dental assistant in 2006 at the age of 15. From there it was up.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
You can talk and come up with all the business plans in the world, but until action is put behind it, not many ppl are going to support you. Once I starting posting my food and achievements, that’s when ppl started to notice me and reach out for investments. They knew I was serious about my brand and my reviews on how good my food was backed it up.. Then I used 1 business to fund another.. The rest is history.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by taking good quality photos of my food and ppl sharing them. Also by posting real life testimonials and reviews. My prices was low and the quality of my food compared to none. Of course ppl had to see for themselves. Far as Taxes, posting and sharing my own tax stories, returns and well as those of others w/ returns at an all time high and services second to none. Growing and returning clients is proof in the pudding
My advice is to find what works for you and don’t let other ppl project there fears on you.
