We recently connected with Chester Shuey and have shared our conversation below.
Chester, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, I like working with my hands. Custom furniture making is a great outlet for that. I also enjoy working with clients to bring a unique idea to reality,
I think I first realized I wanted to have my own business when I was about 17 or 18. I was working for furniture maker and managing most of the project flow. It was fun and I felt like it was a great place to be.
Chester, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have professional experience in furniture, cabinetry, and doors. I gained most of this experience while working alongside other talented craftsmen over the years.
I mostly focus on furniture made from solid hardwoods. I try to incorporate joinery that not only has been know to last generations, but has become an aesthetic that gives clients piece of mind they made a good investment.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I have to say Etsy has been an amazing platform for me personally. They do a great job connecting clients that need something special with artist or craftsman that can help them make it a reality.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Honestly, I’m a fairly small business. I have a large amount of repeat clients. So I think doing a great job the first time keeps them coming back. If I made a mistake on something I fix it and some. I think that goes a long way.
