We recently connected with Cheryle Brown-Williamson and have shared our conversation below.
Cheryle , appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to have as many people as I can have the knowledge to get into homeownership and pass it on to the generations after them. Having generational wealth. Something that was not taught to me at a young age. I didn’t learn about the leverage that real estate brings until I got older. But it’s never to late to learn.
Cheryle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After many years of corporate America as an accountant for large corporations. I got into interior design through purchasing my first new construction home. After seeing the designer, me & the designer pulled everything together for my home. I decided that this was something I wanted to pursue. So, after lots of research, I found homestaging and got certified as a certified home stager, From there I started my own business. Just the Right Touch Home Staging and Interior Redesign, which I worked for builders all across the country. I Worked for a builder in Florida. I was staging homes and doing open houses. My actual job was an Open house hostess. I loved this job. I thought it was the best job in the world. I was helping stage, then holding the open house and in Florida you don’t need a license to hold an open house. The homes were huge 10,000 sq ft and the open houses were more events. They were more like parties. I loved it. Once I had a buyer, I then turned them over to the realtors, and the realtors were making the good money. I turned over a Buyer to someone who sold a home for 5 million dollars. And his commission was pretty much a year’s salary. That’s when a light bulb went off. I thought why I am turning this over to a realtor I should become a realtor.
That was the start of my research & quest to become a realtor. Once I moved back to California, that was my main focus, getting my Real Estate license. I was still staging homes. Connected with a builder here, Still doing what I love staging the homes, but working towards getting my license. And I finally got my license in 2018. And that’s how I got started in real estate. It actually started with interior design and moved over toward real estate.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Well. As I mentioned, I’ve staged homes across the country. Each time I went to a different state. I had to pivot and start all over again from the beginning because of course I’m in a new state. I didn’t know anyone, so my business started in California. I moved to Atlanta. I had to pivot and restart in Atlanta. That’s getting clientele, and then I moved to Florida. Which I had to pivot restart. I’ve been asked so many times how I did that. I believe in the power of social media. Each time I went to a different state. I did social media got online. I networked. I met people, talk to people communicated to people that I was there. And somehow the word got out, and that’s how I built my clientele in each state.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I think the best source of new clients for me is referrals. When people Know you like you and trust you, the Referrals will come. What also helps is I do a lot of videos and whether I realized it or not. People watch my videos. They’re not good in my opinion, but you must start somewhere, and people watch them. As all my mentors say, just do it!
