We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cheryl Snyder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cheryl thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with my idea for my business during the pandemic. Spending more time a home I found myself on social media more. I was on Instagram and came across live crystal sales. I’ve loved rocks and crystals since I was a child and enjoyed the live sale experience. It was fun to shop online and chat with others in the live sale. I saw how the live sale rooms connected crystal lovers and how easy it was for community to develop in an organic and fun way. One of the crystal sellers was sharing her story and I could relate to her love of rocks and crystals from a young age. I thought to myself if she could do it I surely could too. I did some research about starting a crystal business and not too long after I registered my business, purchased inventory and opened my shop online. A few months after opening I began doing local events as a vendor. I loved chatting with customers, hearing their stories and sharing our passion for crystals. Most recently I’ve been offering crystal education workshops and have even taken a group of people on a quartz digging trip to Arkansas.

Cheryl, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I consider myself a boutique crystal shop offering a wide range of crystals (both raw and polished), crystal jewelry and mineral specimens. I hand select my crystals so i can offer the best quality crystals at the best prices. I also do personal shopping for my customers. I provide my customers with more than just crystals. I’m available to answer any questions, make recommendations for crystals that would best support their needs or help them find the perfect gift. I’m a certified crystal healer and love to teach people how to use crystals in their daily life.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded by business with my stimulus check. It was the best use of my money!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One smaller pivot I’ve made this year is pulling back from smaller events where I was less likely to come into contact with people who wanted to engage with my business and I started collaborating with local businesses that carry my crystals in their stores. I’ve loved developing relationships with the business owners and management of each shop. Everyone has been so supportive and I’d love to expand into more shops as well as collaborating with other businesses.
