We were lucky to catch up with Cheryl Hayes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheryl, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
We bought our farm in 2019 and began to search for a name. My maiden name is Hays and my married name is Hayes so we decided we would name our farm Blue Haze Farms for a twist on “Hayes”.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a small Family farm. We raise Minatare Texas Longhorns. We also have mini pigs, goats and horses. We wanted to find a way for people to enjoy the land, so we decided to build a couple of “Glamping” sites for others to enjoy nature, but be close to the city. We currently have 3 sites, The Longhorn House, which is a longhorn themed tiny house. “Grazeland” is a 1972 Vintage airstream fully remodeled. It features a full size bed, kitchen, bathroom with shower, 2 TV’s, and Futon inside. The outside space has a firepit, grills, dining table and big screen TV. The best part of the outside area is the Vintage soaking tub. It is decorated with a vintage/modern/rustic touch with a hint of Elvis. Our “Chic Retreat” is a BoHo chic glamping tent with a luxury queen size bed, 2 mini sofas that lay down into a bed, super cool sound system and all the essentials you need to cook a camping meal. We have a Blue Haze Lake for fishing or canoeing. We also have Goat Yoga, Paddleboard Yoga and other events throughout the year. We have an outdoor movie theater too.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2011 my husband and I both worked in corporate America. We both knew that the companies we worked for had a history of laying off and downsizing. Within 6 months, my husband and I were both laid off from our companies. We had prepared for this by getting our business license in place to start our Security Company. We decided that it was sink or swim and we went full force started our business from scratch. We currently operate a successful Security Company as well as our farm.
