We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheryl Dempsey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheryl below.
Cheryl, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Along with taking care of clients, taking care of our team is one of the most important things we can do as leaders. Looking back on your journey, did you have a boss that was really great? Maybe you can tell us about that boss and what made them a wonderful person to work for?
Before I opened a business, I was fortunate enough to have a great leader/mentor, that recognized my potential and has been a sounding board for me since, as an Entreprenuer. She encouraged me to take on new roles that were often uncomfortable, to expand my leadership experience and learn new skills. I appreciate her investment in me as young college graduate, and even more as a business owner.

Cheryl, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
First and foremost, I am a wife and mom and am grateful daily that I have the opportunity to earn a living doing something that I love, while staying true to my commitment to our family. I hold a graduate degree in Business and worked in Government Accounting for nearly a decade with an Undergraduate Degree in Finance, before shifting my focus to business owner. As our family grew, so did various responsibilities and I began working in the Mortgage industry, training with my husband. At the time, the Company was much needed support for my husband and his growing business. The Company provides contract processing services for established mortgage brokers. With my Financial background and experience in Leadership, the company has grown exponentially, and I am honored to work with the best in the business. Having an expanding client base and the need to bring on additional full-time staff is a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Moving from corporate/government work is scary and often unpredictable. Leaving a pension and guaranteed salary is hard, but worth it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Commenting and engaging. My entire business is built on referrals and I pay zero dollars for ads. We’re ready and staffed when we pull the trigger on active marketing. It doesn’t come without work. Authenticity is key, and I’ve been fortunate enough to establish myself as an “industry expert.” I’ve served on multiple Boards, volunteered on multiple committees and am active in our community. People want to work with people they know.
