We were lucky to catch up with Cherrie McRae recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cherrie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Hi there, so glad to be here!
Risks, an all-too familiar word for me as an artist. One major risk that comes to mind was moving from my native hometown of Miami, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a better quality of life and creative lifestyle. As a young adult, single mother the stakes were undoubtedly raised when I picked up myself and my son’s entire life and relocated to a whole other state merely on the strength of a creative career either soaring or flopping.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Cherrie McRae, most all me ‘Cher.’ I am a full time Television and Film Actor and have been for close to a decade now. My first introduction to the industry was a low-budgeted cable network, non-credited soap series Summer 1999. I took an extremely long hiatus (15 years), because my family frowned upon ‘Acting’ for a living. Shortly after graduating from College, getting my bachelors degree in Business, I immediately entered Corporate American in an Human Resource Management capacity. Fast forward to 2006, moving to Atlanta, Ga, where I was met with beginner’s acting class, an over abundance of background work and investigative re-enactments shows. Looking back, I am extremely humbled and grateful for my artistic trajectory. I am a firm believer so much more is, undoubtedly, in store!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal/mission is to become a series regular on a few hit TV shows in the very near future. A close second to acting is TV and Film Directing of which I’ve written and directed 4 short films drama in a 4 1/2 year time span. From there, I would love to spend the remainder of my creative career, building up9on my production company, Written Write Pictures, developing compelling stories (writing, directing, acting) alongside my other creative colleagues and counterparts.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building a social media presence is far from easy and I am a social butterfly. But the persistence and consistency behind organically engaging with people you both know or don’t know. It, I feel is, a blessing and a curse. You must utilize it’s features for your gain, then slowly push it away (giving yourself mental think space). “Likes, following, positive/negative comments,” can be triggering if you cannot take the avalanche of opinions and/or persuasion. Use it…don’t allow those app’s to use you!
