Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cherise Moreno. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cherise, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have such a passion for helping people push past their comfort zones with food, exploring new flavors and new areas of town. Being able to bring restaurants and customers together is truly the best part of what we do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started SaTexasFoodies when I first got married, me and Lucas wanted to create a fun page to show our friends and out of town family all the great restaurants and things to do in San Antonio.
Trying different restaurants began to be our new hobby and with my love of photography, I started to learn more about angles and lighting of the food. Soon restaurants started inviting me to try their food, this made it easier to explore and try more foods at the restaurants because I did not have to invest so much money for one post. Then the pandemic happened and the only way to really post about new restaurants was to take pictures at home. So I bought a nice camera and started learning more about photography and took pictures of my take out meals because we couldn’t go inside restaurants. I also started to post tiktok videos making meals at home. This lead me to build a fast following on tiktok and this was where I really started to help small businesses grow.
My first viral video was from crepeccino. I saw they had an eye catching appetizer of hot chocolate sauce with cut up fruit you can dip inside and I wanted to try it. So we ordered that and a few other things. I created a short video on tiktok and it went viral. The owner actually reached out and told me he received so much business from my post! I was so shocked! I couldn’t believe I actually helped a business with my post! That was such a rewarding feeling. Since then i have continued helping to promote local restaurants through social media.
The problem most restaurants have is, what sources of advertising will work to promote their business. There are so many advertising avenues like TV, Flyers, Internet, Social Media etc. I had a restaurant ask me to help promote their business recently who were paying 400 per month with internet advertising and not getting anyone in their doors. I was able to promote them on social media and immediately they received so many customers, they sold out of food!
What sets me apart is I actually eat the food i post to make sure its delicious and I strive to create the best content for the viewer as possible. I use quality equipment, lighting, i spend 1 to 2 hours filming and take anywhere from 1-5 hours editing a 15 second video.
Im proud i am able to take a hobby and grow it to help local businesses and local San Antonians to go out of their comfort zones and try something new. Doing something you love and helping others at the same time is the best feeling in the world!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started to build my audience by just posting restaurants me and my husband would try on our time together. It was more of a hobby at first, I really enjoyed doing it.
My advice for people who are starting out is to post about everything you love and find something you would love to talk about every day, for me that was food, for you it might be something else. Then learn a new skill to talk about that thing you love. For me I learned how to create videos and take beautiful pictures of food in any restaurant at any time of day. Then just keep posting and learning new things along the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Doing something I love while helping local businesses thrive and getting San Antonio out of their 10 minute bubble is the most rewarding aspect of being a creative.
