We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cherie Delgado. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cherie below.
Cherie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I first started my business, I was doing everything on my own. As time went on, I started to get busier and needed help. I have a few friends that came to my rescue when I had a big event coming up. I didn’t even have to ask, and they were there the night before to help me prep all the food and the day of the event. They asked for nothing in return, and this literally melted my heart. I am not used to asking for help, I usually figure things out alone, but in these cases my friends knew I needed them and did not disappoint.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Trauma Registered Nurse full time and Charcuterie is my side business. I have always loved charcuterie and would take them to all family parties. People would ask “do you sell these”? After so many people asking, I decided to give it a try. I have so much fun creating, and it honestly is my fun job. Trauma is not easy, and creating these boards gives me a chance to escape the stress and sadness I deal with as a Registered Nurse on a daily basis. When creating a board, I put so much love into them, and I design every board differently. I think what sets me apart from other charcuterie businesses is my creativity. I get lost in the meats and cheeses and fruits and design every board to fit the occasion. As soon as anyone gives me a theme or colors they want incorporated, I just go with it and create something that fits them perfectly. I have not had many problems with clients. Every minor problem has a solution and that’s my thought process. I am most proud of figuring out how to run this small business alone and learning to navigate the business world. I am proud of my creativity and the love I put into every single board and event. I want my clients to see how much I enjoy this, and I never want to disappoint them.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My very first time that I had a big event, which was a wedding, so many things happened from the morning starting off with rain to getting lost on the way to the venue and forgetting an entire box of supplies at home which was an hour away from where I was at. All of this gave me very limited time to set up before cocktail hour started. I stayed behind setting up while my assistant went to the store and got the things I forgot. This was so stressful because it was my first big event and I wanted everything to be perfect. All though I wanted to go in a corner and cry, I sat in my car for 10 minutes and prayed and told myself “You can do this”. I got out of my car, put my roller skates on and got it done with time to spare. I always doubt myself but when I sit back and look at the big picture, I realize how stressful feeding over 100 people is and I got it done and I have to pat myself on the shoulder and thank God he helped carry me through it.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started to build my business on Instagram, started posting on my personal account and tagging my business account. My kids that are way more tech Savy would take my pictures and videos and they would help me create reels which at first, I had no clue how to do that. As time went on, I had a social media person reach out to me and offer to help build up my business account. She helped me change my account to an actual business account so we could see the trends and algorithms and this really helped. She gave me some great ideas on content and how to bring the customers in based on social content. She helped me tremendously and I would highly recommend hiring someone like this to help get you started. She also suggested I create a TikTok which drew in so many more customers.
