We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cheri Banks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cheri, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My name is Cheri Banks and my husband’s name is Chris Banks. When we were in college, we were inseparable. If you saw one of us, you saw the other. Because of this, people started to call us CB². The name stuck with us throughout college and was just something we always remembered. He’s very involved in my business, so when I officially started it, I thought, what better name than CB² which represents us both?
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I’m Cheri and I am a full-time public health professional by day and a stylist/content creator by night. I lived in downtown DC for the last 6 years and relocated back to my hometown of Atlanta, GA this fall. I have always loved to style people and did it for free until I decided to create a business out of something I love. CB² Styles is a styling business dedicated to helping everyday men and women find their most authentic selves through style. I specialize in assisting people in finding affordable clothing that will fit their lifestyle and needs while making them feel their best. I am also a content creator. I’ve focused on style content, but recently branched out to a little travel content. You will soon start seeing lifestyle/home content from me as well.
I am proud that people I’ve come in contact with recognize my brand for never switching up when it comes to my #1 priority (always buy quality and buy affordable). People have told me that they appreciate that I am still focusing on the everyday person on a budget. I want people to know that you don’t have to spend tons of money building your wardrobe. I can show you how to find your style and purchase affordable, good-quality clothing that can be worn in multiple ways. If you book me, you will learn how to get maximum wear out of your current items and any new items you add.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started my social media page at the very beginning of the pandemic. That worked in my favor because so many people were at home and spending a lot of time scrolling on social media. It may sound cliche, but I built my audience by simply posting what I love and remaining consistent. I made sure I created a posting schedule so that people knew when to expect content from me and I did not stray from that schedule. Engaging with the pages of others and also responding to all comments on my posts helped my following as well. My best advice for growth is to decide what kind of content you want to post, don’t post sporadically (maintain a posting schedule), and batch your content (so you always have something to post if there are times when you can’t create content), and engage! Engage with your followers, engage with content from similar hashtags, and respond to everyone who writes a comment on your post. It helps!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been social media for me! Whether it’s clients who want to be styled or companies that want to collaborate, many of them have found me on social media and sent me an email or DM. Word of mouth (surprisingly) has also been very helpful.
