We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cherelle Ward. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cherelle below.
Cherelle, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents, Pastor Clarence Lee Jackson Sr. & My mother Ms. Phyllis P. Jackson, raised myself along with my 4 sisters. My parents were strong in their faith and made sure to raise us up in a Christian home. I born and raised in the Pentecostal Church, organization Church Of God In Christ. I learned about faith at a young age, and held on to that foundation throughout my life.
I saw love your neighbor in action, my parents would care for children in the neighborhood, the church and extended family along with myself and my siblings
There was always room for someone else. When others were in need of spoken or not they never hesitated to do what they could to help a mother out, to help a young adult out with security love, a meal or place to sleep. I love them for that! So much so I’ve literally taken on that mantle. I have a great passion to help youth and young adults. By mentoring and simply creating an extended family for them.
Loving people, caring and understanding that your current circumstances don’t define you but you define yourself with how you want to be and having a personal relationship with God was most important that would be your foundation to stand on no matter what you were facing . It was definitely the thing my parents did right.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a new Author, I published my book November 2023, this book is a memoir of my life, and the Journey of life’s ups and downs, lessons and challenges in relationships to my healing. Women building women is a passion of mine for I suffered with low self esteem and depression for many years and through the grace of God I have overcome the obstacles that haunted me for years hiding in plain sight, divorce, sexual assault, abuse and other forms of anxieties . I took the time out that I needed to help me be me, with counseling and therapy and Prayers! God Changed how I saw myself and allowed me to know that I am valuable regardless of any loss any situation or circumstance that I have gone through. I am now at my best place because I love the me I am.
I’ve recently launched into another area of ministry called When Sisters Gather collaborating with my sisters. Kim, Darla, and Melissa, this was the vision given to us through my youngest sister Claretta Lynn whom we love and miss so much. It was so inspiring that we could not let it just pass on by we had to execute the vision, and we are moving forward in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Our mission is to help women no matter color, creed, background none of that matters as much as helping them to Uncover, Heal and Transform for the betterment of their lives. Building sister relationships that can also help them.
I am a mother of 4 beautiful grown children Anthony Lee, Phillip Carrington, Jonelle Patrice and Sydney Cheree,, two daughters in law, Ebony & Tekah. And tribe of grandchildren 12 to be exact. I love them all so much.
I’m a licensed and ordained minister of the Gospel since 2008 under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth W. Paramore & Pastor Leta Paramore of Christ Centered Church in Youngstown, Ohio , I love Christ and I live my life in such a way that would allow me to show others about the love of Jesus Christ.
It is my dream to have the largest youth Community center in the city. Offering resources for families, education and skills development and training. Along with a safe place for youth activities and positive interaction with others. I’m writing the vision and awaiting the time for this to come to pass.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I found a strength I didn’t know I had during Covid, I had to relocate back to my hometown in Ohio, Care for my mother and while adjusting to my living arrangements, work and starting over, I found my self in a situation that was heartbreaking, failed relationships are never easy. It was so hard to deal with that I couldn’t just shake it alone I needed some additional help, prayers and time.
I had to face the fact that I needed to speak with someone, I chose to get counseling to overcome the disappointment that I was going through in my life. I went through 13 months of counseling and therapy to work through the pain, pain that I was hiding within, I learned to be honest with myself and acknowledge that I was walking daily through fear and rejection. I completed my sessions weekly and did my homework through the counseling, therapy and being completely honest; I graduated out of my journey to wholeness. It is there that I began to see me for the real person I was.
Beautiful inside and out, no longer walking in shame of what my physical appearance was or the failures I experienced. I remember the day I walked into a barbershop to get my hair cut and have hair restoration service done to cover the balding I have. This was part of my counseling session as well.
I will never for get the feeling of relief and freedom that I experienced. I found my inner strength to walk in there and back out without hiding. There was a room full of men in the shop that day, and it didn’t stop me from doing what I came for, my barber is a young woman, Valyn Benson is her name, and she helped to restore confidence in me! She is a blessing to many who seek her professional creative services.
I gained another level of Freedom.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe it’s my character, my dedication to Christ and sincere love and care for people that allow women, men, children to gravitate toward me. People need to feel you genuinely care. Offering what I would want in return.
