We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheraine Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheraine below.
Cheraine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I’ve been in the music and entertainment industry since I was 18, primarily working as an event producer and marketer for various events and concerts. My first major client was Atlantic Records, where I was contracted to develop the content marketing plan for an EP by Jamaican artist Stalk Ashley. This was my first time creating such a detailed campaign for a release, and it ended up being about 52 pages long. I spent an entire week working on it—no sleep, just me and my laptop for seven straight nights.
I was beyond excited to share my ideas, illustrate the concepts, and, most importantly, ensure that the artist loved everything I proposed—and she did. Watching your concepts come to life is one thing, but seeing them loved by the client is something else entirely. I’ll never forget that project.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in music – my father was a producer. I still have some of his work on vinyl. My grandmother used to host street dances in downtown Kingston, she passed her love for entertainment down to her family. I’ve always know that this is what I’d be doing with my life, helping to create opportunities for music and culture to shine brightly in every way possible.
Founded with that same passion for music, Tastemaker was established as a creative music marketing and consulting agency that offers a comprehensive, full-service 360 approach to help brands and artists elevate their value in the dynamic world of music. My agency bridges the gap between entertainers and brands to create impactful campaigns, activations and partnerships that target the interests and generate engagement across multiple channels and audiences.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Detail – The difference between something good and something great lies in attention to detail. To create something exceptional, your mindset must be relentlessly focused on even the smallest aspects. Over time, I’ve built a reputation for being extremely thorough with every project I take on. In the world of entertainment and production, there are always countless elements and moving parts—it’s easy for small things to slip through the cracks. But I make it a point to catch them. I believe that the real magic happens in those fine details, and they can be the deciding factor between a project that simply works and one that truly stands out.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Censoring art – when I first started out, I was nervous about pitching projects that involved collaborations with certain musical figures because of how unfiltered they might be. Now, I see that censoring art is an injustice. Music is meant to be enjoyed in its truest form, not reduced to something commercial or easily digestible for a wider audience.
