Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chera Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chera, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
When you’re a new agent, one of the first things you do is build up your pipeline of buyers and sellers. And you know what? Hosting an open house is one of the absolute best ways to make that happen.
So there I was, in the chilly month of January, getting ready for my very first open house of the year. It was a big deal for me. Picture this: a gorgeous home nestled in the sought-after Waterford/Avalon Park area of East Orlando, with the sun shining brightly in the sky. Perfect setting, right?
Well, let me tell you, we had a pretty good turnout that day. Around 20 people strolled through the doors, eager to see what the house had to offer. It was buzzing with excitement and energy.
Now, here’s the really cool part. After the open house, I decided to send everyone who visited a video thank you note. It felt like the right thing to do, you know? Little did I know that this simple gesture would be a game-changer.
Just two days later, I got the most amazing news. Those lovely folks I sent the video to? They wanted to work with me! Can you imagine how thrilled I was? The real estate market was tough back then (still is, to be honest), but we powered through together.
It wasn’t a walk in the park, though. We had to submit not one, not two, but five offers before we finally sealed the deal and closed on their dream home, two months later. It was a wild time, but worth every moment.
You know what’s even better? Our connection didn’t end there. Even now, going on two years now, we’re still in touch. It’s amazing to see how this journey brought us together and formed a lasting bond.
That’s the beauty of being a real estate agent. It’s all about the people, the connections you make, and helping them achieve their dreams. And let me tell you, it’s an incredible feeling to be a part of someone’s journey and see their happiness unfold right before your eyes.
Chera, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Having started my career as a property manager in the multi-family housing space, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity assisting numerous individuals in finding affordable housing. During that time, I gained extensive knowledge in managing day-to-day operations, the financial aspect and marketing needs of these huge communities.
I think my passion for real estate is driven by service and bringing value to others, I like working with sellers and particularly first-time buyers and I think that’s because I know what it feels like being one myself and I feel so honored to be a part of their real estate journey for the first time.
I’m originally from the DMV area but I’ve lived in Florida since 2007. I’ve come to love and enjoy Florida very much, I mean how can you not? From the beaches to the abundant wildlife, when I’m not busy with clients, I’m either on a walking trail, or trying new restaurants, not to mention touring new construction homes.
One thing I want people to know about me is that maintaining a balanced lifestyle is something that I cherish. I prioritize the time I spend with family, which helps to keep me in a good state of physical well-being and emotional health, which leads to great results for me as an agent. I will go above and beyond for them.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media can be very tricky. The key I’ve found is to be yourself and create content that you like, but always come from a place of service, value and education.
When people come to my page or discover a post of mine, I want them to come away with something. Whether it’s something they found entertaining or something they learned, I want them to come away with an experience.
Oddly enough, I’m a very private person and introverted at heart. So I had to get uncomfortable and learn that if I was always coming from that place of value, that it was good content. I learned to stop overthinking and just post the content and to be consistent.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One book that comes to mine is called the “The Mountain Is You” by Brianna Wiest, and it’s a book about comparison, self – doubt and thinking negatively about yourself. I read this book and listened to the audio version of it and probably will read it again at some point.
Being an entrepreneur is one thing, but being in real estate as an entrepreneur is a whole other thing. It can be very difficult and very isolating at times. There’s so much to do and learn all the time, I mean the wheel never stops turning on its own. This book made me realize that I was constantly running around and trying to compete with everyone– which was wrong essentially.
It taught me that only needed to focus on myself and create the discipline and consistency to thrive in this industry and to not worry about anyone else. It also help remind me of why I was doing real estate and why I love it.
