Pushing Through: My Journey of Healing, Faith, and Resilience
Most people who meet me today see a strong, vibrant woman—an expert in yoga, Reiki healing, hypnotherapy, and spiritual wellness. But what many don’t know is the physical pain, injuries, and silent battles I’ve endured to get here. I rarely share this part of my story, not because I’m ashamed or afraid, but because I’ve always believed in pushing through rather than complaining. But now, for the first time publicly, I want to share my journey—one of perseverance, healing, and faith—because if God did it for me, He can do it for you too.
At 12 years old, I broke my knee doing what I loved most: dancing. But instead of letting it stop me, I continued dancing—through drill team, dance teams, professional performances, and, most importantly, praise dancing in the church. I knew my knee was weak, but I wasn’t willing to let go of something that brought me so much joy. I learned to work around the pain, never fully realizing the extent of the damage my body had endured.
It wasn’t until years later, after a slip and fall at Target, that I discovered the real truth about my body. What I thought was just a lingering knee injury turned out to be so much more—an MRI revealed a torn meniscus in my knee, three slipped discs in my neck, and two slipped discs in my lower back. The doctors gave me options: surgery, painkillers, or simply learning to live with the pain. But something inside me refused to accept that as my only way forward.
I sought wisdom, and thankfully, I had doctors who encouraged me to look at my youth and strength instead of resigning myself to surgery or medication. One piece of advice stood out: Build the muscle around your knee, strengthen your body, and keep moving. And so, that’s exactly what I did.
I became relentless in my pursuit of strength, pushing my body to do things even I wasn’t sure it could handle. Hiking Runyon Canyon became my personal challenge, proving to myself that I could still climb mountains—both physically and metaphorically. But it wasn’t just physical strength I needed; it was a deeper healing that called to me.
Through dance, I was introduced to yoga—initially just for stretching and breathwork, but soon, it became so much more. The more I practiced, the more I realized that yoga wasn’t just about movement; it was about healing, alignment, and connection—body, mind, and spirit. I immersed myself in the healing arts, not just for my body but for my soul. That journey led me to Reiki healing, which, through my Christian foundation, I recognized as the laying on of hands—a divine and scientific way of facilitating healing through the power of Christ. I studied hypnotherapy, mindfulness, and holistic wellness, becoming fascinated with how faith and healing intersect.
I became my own living testimony.
Today, at 42 years old, I feel stronger than ever. Yes, there are moments of pain, but they are fleeting, mere reminders of the battles I’ve overcome. My journey has taught me that healing isn’t just about fixing what’s broken—it’s about aligning, surrendering, and believing that God’s power within us is greater than any diagnosis, injury, or limitation.
I share my story now not for sympathy, but to inspire. If you are struggling—physically, emotionally, or spiritually—know that healing is possible. You are not your pain. You are not your limitations. You are capable of pushing through, rising above, and thriving.
And if my journey has taught me anything, it’s that the greatest healing comes when we surrender, trust, and move forward with unwavering faith.
