We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsie Rae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsie below.
Alright, Chelsie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am – it’s really a blessing to be able to wake up every day and love what I do for a living! Aside from writing, I never thought of myself as much of a creative but now I’m two years in to slaying brows and I love this medium I’ve chosen. I consistently find myself surrounded by talented people, so this feels like the perfect setting for me to thrive in as a growing artist.
I haven’t always been much of a “regular job” girl, so that’s going to be an easy no from me. Being a semi-permanent make up artist has afforded me so many opportunities that now it’s hard to imagine ever going back to a corporate setting that would limit my time and lifestyle so much.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Outside of the studio, I’m really just a normal girl most of the time. I’m big on hot yoga classes, family, nature walks with my dog and keeping up with my local coffee runs. I’ve been microblading for two years now and that feels incredible to share. Naturally, I was nervous when I first left the security of my corporate role and ultimately decided to try something new, but I have a great support system (in addition to the world’s best clientele) and now I know the risk was worth taking. I realized right away that I would have to find balance between my personal and professional life. Luckily now I have my workflow down pat and I know how much time I need to set aside each day to dedicate to getting administrative things done. I’m proud of what I’ve learned along the way and to be able to say that I’ve grown a lot more confident in my abilities to be successful in my career as time has gone on.
Overall, my main focus has been creating the most natural looking microbladed brows, but about a year ago I also added faux freckle tattoos to my service menu so that’s been a lot of fun. Eventually I’ll be ready to expand further, but for now I want to keep furthering my education and getting even better at what I already do.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think it’s super important for people to recognize that art is often more than meets the eye, so we don’t want others jump to conclusions about the final product without understanding the process. I always hope that people keep an open mind about my work and the process involved – to remember that art is often a passion project for many of us. Something that takes a lot of time and energy to create, even if it appears to be relatively simple from the outside looking in.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would say that it has to be getting the chance to meet so many people from so many different walks of life because I get lots of exposure to different perspectives, ideas and professional backgrounds. I absolutely love to make quality connections with my clients and learn from them. It’s always something new when I’m in studio, so that keeps things interesting, you know?
