We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsi Nason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsi, appreciate you joining us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
Covid changed my esthetician business model tremendously – due to various factors related to suite relocation and spa employment opportunities, I shifted my esthetician business to a virtual focus. This allowed me to use my license in a new way by exploring business opportunities apart from the traditional treatment room.
I’ve learned so much over the past year and plan to expand my brand to products, educational services, as well as virtual services to not only help people learn and care for their skin, but teach and enhance the esthetician experience for others in the industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve learned the power of pivoting and I am currently a Project Specialist for Memphis-Shelby County Schools; with a focus on Marketing, Social Media Management, and Graphic Design. I have the creative freedom to work on projects in a specific division that focuses on providing high school students, post-secondary opportunities whether it be a collegiate route or technical-based route. I’ve been freelancing in graphic design for about 6 years under my brand, Chelsi Nsn Designs. I am also still very active in Esthetics, as I received my Texas licensure in the summer of 2022, and currently working on a business venture for Estheticians and other beauty professionals.
My current position has allowed me to utilize skills from every avenue in my life – the beautiful part about having an internal mission and honing into your natural skills is that, no matter the workplace or position, my goal remains: create, educate, and show up as myself to encourage others that they can do the same.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Since I graduated undergrad in 2018, I probably applied to about 2,500+ jobs in total. It definitely wasn’t a hobby of mine, it was just that difficult to secure a position! However, in the midst of interviews, rejections, and super-long applications, I still had a plan to work in an industry and space where I could be fulfilled. I’m thankful that I didn’t let the discouragement of the extreme job search, stop me from settling. I view it all as a journey and I still have much more to do. Don’t ever think that your current situation is the final destination.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having individuals trust your process and seeing how interested they are in how you reached the final result. I love teaching people new things and when I’m able to help someone learn a process better or gain a new skill, it makes my day!
