We were lucky to catch up with Chelsey Hall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Reflecting on my journey, I wouldn’t change the timing of when I started my creative career. It came at a pivotal moment in my life—after experiencing depression and going through a divorce. Those experiences were incredibly challenging, but they also gave me the push I needed to discover a new path, leading me to makeup artistry. I began this creative venture when I was a single mother trying to rebuild my life and sense of self. Makeup became a form of expression and a way to help others feel beautiful and empowered, which in turn empowered me.
If I had started sooner, I wouldn’t have had the depth of emotional understanding and resilience that I do now, both of which have deeply influenced my work. Starting later, on the other hand, might have kept me from finding my creative outlet when I needed it most—when I was searching for something to hold onto and to rebuild my identity.
Looking back, everything aligned in its own time. The struggles I faced brought out a creativity that I’m not sure would have emerged otherwise, and that has shaped my unique perspective in the beauty industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a professional makeup artist and entrepreneur who found my way into the beauty industry during a difficult chapter of my life. After experiencing depression and divorce, I turned to makeup as a form of self-expression and healing. What started as a personal outlet quickly evolved into a career where I now help others feel confident and empowered through their own transformations.
I offer a variety of services, including makeup for special events, bridal looks, beauty consultations, and personalized makeup tutorials. What sets my brand apart is my focus on inclusivity and diversity. I believe that beauty comes in all forms, and I strive to create looks that highlight each individual’s unique features, regardless of skin tone, gender, or background. My work isn’t just about enhancing outer beauty, it’s also about helping people feel seen and confident in their own skin.
The problems I solve for my clients often revolve around self-image and confidence. Many come to me looking for more than just makeup; they want to feel beautiful and comfortable in their own identity. I approach each client with a personalized touch, ensuring that the final look not only meets their vision but also helps them feel more empowered.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how I’ve built a career from something that started as a form of self-care. My experiences, both personal and professional, have allowed me to connect deeply with my clients. I know what it feels like to face life’s challenges and still want to present your best self to the world, and I carry that understanding into my work.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, the main thing I want them to know is that my work is about much more than just aesthetics. My goal is to use makeup as a tool for self-expression and empowerment. Whether you’re preparing for a big event, looking for a new style, or wanting to explore makeup for the first time, my mission is to make you feel confident and radiant in your own skin. My brand is about inclusivity, authenticity, and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creativity is deeply rooted in my faith and my desire to honor God through my work. I believe that each of us is given unique gifts, and for me, makeup and creativity are part of that blessing. My mission is to use those gifts in a way that uplifts others, helping them see the beauty and potential that God has placed within them.
Every time I work with a client, I aim to reflect God’s love and purpose by making them feel valued, seen, and confident. I want my work to be a form of service that not only enhances external beauty but also fosters inner strength and self-acceptance. My goal is to honor God by using my talents to spread positivity and love through beauty, while always remaining authentic to my values and faith.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
One thing that non-creatives often struggle to understand about my journey is the emotional and spiritual toll it can take. Creativity isn’t just about producing something beautiful; it’s a deeply personal process, and burnout is very real. There are times when the constant push to innovate, perfect a look, or meet client expectations becomes overwhelming. But what keeps me grounded is my belief that my creativity is a gift from the ultimate Creator, and creating is not just about me—it’s about being obedient and submitting to His purpose for me.
For me, the creative process is a form of worship, and I remind myself that it’s not just about how much I can produce or how perfect each look is. It’s about being faithful to the calling I believe God has placed on my life. When I create with this mindset, I find strength in Him, even when I feel drained. Understanding that it’s more about obedience than perfection helps me avoid burnout and keeps my work meaningful and purposeful.
