Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chelsey Ann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Chelsey, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Being an artist and also making enough money to survive has not been easy but in the past year, I have been able to find a balance by becoming a virtual assistant and social media manager. This job has given me the freedom to write music and play and work around that rather than working set hours and only being able to focus on music in the evening and on weekends. Before taking the jump I had feared no one was going to hire me as a VA but I knew I would not be happy living like I was before so I finally did it and have not been happier. I had help from my dear friend Lillian Glanton who has encouraged me to do this for over 2 years. She always says to “ditch the phrase starving artist” and with her help, I’ve been able to do that.
Chelsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, My name is Chelsey Ann and I’m a singer-songwriter located in Nashville, TN. I am originally from the Pacific Northwest and believe my music is heavily influenced by the part of the world and my love for country music. I have struggled with my mental health most of my life and not only has music been my passion but it has helped me through so many dark seasons. I find healing in writing and creating music and I hope my listeners feel the same when they hear my songs.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of creating music for me is when my words make someone else feel seen. In today’s world, it can feel so isolating and I know for myself a lot of times I have felt like I am the only one that feels this way when that couldn’t be further from the truth. We weren’t meant to live life alone and when something I created helps someone else feel less lonely, that is the best gift.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I know this will change as I go through different seasons of life but right now it’s to be a positive light in this world and create music that helps people feel whatever they need to.
