We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsea Stingley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Chelsea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How has Covid changed your business model?

What started out as a residential cleaning company became a full service investment group with 5 streams of income under it because of covid and the pandemic.

When I first moved to Los Angeles in 2019 – I sought out to launch my cleaning service in LA as well. ( I had already been in business since 2015 in Milwaukee, Wi where I am from) I succeeded in that and by the end of 2019 I had a few recurring clients under my LA belt. Many of them were AIRBNB & Vacation rental owners. When the pandemic hit – I lost most of my clientele and it was very discouraging. But I was still being called and hired by 2 of my vacation rental clients through the early months of the pandemic, so much so that it was helping me pay my bills.

This allowed me to see the benefit in hosting a vacation rental and we did our research about the industry. By September of 2020 we had launched our first short term rental unit and I was able to pivot my cleaning business to strictly AIRBNB hosts, Vacation rental owners and offering management services to them as well.

Chelsea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

JCD Investment Group is a house of 5 brands!

Joy & Chelsea Daniels is what JCD stands for! We represent the hardworking, queer black and brown entrepreneur!

JCD started in 2020 with the merging of my cleaning company, C’s Cleaning Service and became JCD Enterprises.
In 2021 we were not only offering cleaning management and co-hosting services for other short term rental hosts, but we also started investing in our own rentals. This is when JCD Enterprises became JCD Investment Group.

Once we succeeded in creating and generating nearly 6 figures in our first year, we then launched 4 more brands under JCD – JCD Academy, JCD Legacy Services, JCD Travel Services & JCD Home Design & Decor.

All 5 brands focus solely on bringing authentic delivery and service to our clientele, from educating our students on how to successfully start and launch on AIRBNB, to being licensed to sell life Insurance, booking vacations with our travel agency and fully staging and setting up vacation rental homes for our clients.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

My cofounder/business partner is my now spouse Joy Daniels. We were introduced to each other through a mutual close friend back in 2017. Our friend introduced us because we both also do music and Joy was looking for some new artists to write and produce for and I am a singer.

We didn’t actually begin working together until the following year after being in New Orleans at the same time and hanging out a few days while we were there. I let Joy hear my very first song I was releasing and Joy was intrigued and wanted to work together.

We hadn’t yet established anything romantic but after talking and working closely a few months later we realized that we were also attracted to one another!

There is nothing like having a spouse who is also a GREAT business partner!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

The best piece of advice I can give on building on social media – BE YOURSELF! Authenticity is the best thing we have going for us on our social media platforms… Also follow the trends! Each social media platform has different trends that will allow you to see the most success on that platform – be sure to pay attention and follow them :)
