We recently connected with Chelsea Reyes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
The Kindest thing someone has ever done for me was believing in me more than I ever could. His name is Cedric Zachary. He is the one who pushed me to be a online fitness coach. He was the one that lit the fire in me that I could do anything I wanted. I admired his work ethic and authenticity in the pursuit of a better life by serving people.
He was the first person to show me the ropes on what it took to run a business, be a coach, Apply myself and implement.
Had he not pushed me to take the risk – I never would have on my own.
I am forever grateful for his friendship and mentorship.
Chelsea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Chelsea Reyes and I am an Online Health & Fitness Coach. I offer coaching on weight loss and nutrition. I have been in fitness for the majority of my life starting from childhood. at 7 years old I was on the local swim team and by the time I go to high school I had been in Basketball and Track. Being active was always a part of my life and having the niche of helping others was the cherry on the cake. As an Adult, I was introduced to bodybuilding where I learned majority about body mechanics and the way nutrition affects our bodies. Since I became passionate in not only the sport – but the mentality you build within the sport, I felt it was only right to take my knowledge to build a team of Men & Women in pursuit of their own goals.
Like so many of us, I suffered through mental health issues like anxiety and depression using alcohol as a coping mechanism, which lead to alcoholism.
In fulfilling my fitness dreams, I found a healthy coping mechanism to channel my energy to not only be a positive role model for my daughter, but also free myself from the trap of alcoholism.
I have come to find on my journey of self-love and development that even when you do make a mistake on a bad day, as we all do, focusing on the goals I set forth enabled me to wake up the next day and be better a better version of myself than I was yesterday.
In time and through discipline and resilience, I continued to be better and better at sticking to my goal of being 1% better than yesterday.
After two bodybuilding shows and qualifying nationally at the NPC, I have decided to use my knowledge and skills to take the next step in my journey: Helping those men and women who suffer in silence by instilling the “1% better” mentality through coaching, encouragement and mental toughness.
My sole purpose as a coach is to help my client achieve their goals and show you that what you set your mind to can be accomplished and remind you there IS a light at the end of the tunnel; as long as you go searching for it.
As an Online Coach I believe what sets me apart from others is my edgy drive, Bubbly personality and heroic story of adversity and resilience. The humility in my story speaks volumes to people who are struggling with the same issues.
I am most proud of being able to be a role model to my daughter. I find joy in being able to teach her the most valuable lesson in life. “Never Give Up”.
I want my Clients and Followers to know that no matter the current circumstance they are in, to not let a MOMENT in time define their character. You can CHOOSE at anytime to become anything you want to be. It all starts within YOU.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2021, I was on one of my worst Binge drinking moments. I had attempted to commit suicide from alcohol consumption. I guess you could say the weight of the world felt like it was on my shoulders and I couldn’t handle the mess I made in life anymore.
After spending 1 week inside the mental hospital, I came to the realization of how mentally low I was and how I never wanted to see myself get that low again. I started the journey immediately to my 2nd show.
After spending 7 months sober, 7 months in prep, 7 months living with a family member in an turmoil environment – constantly being reminded everyday of the mistakes I had made – I was able to win first place in my division and become a Nationally Qualified Bodybuilder.
Within that 7 months – I read 22 books, I started therapy, I attended AA meetings 5 times a week, I even had to take a breathalyzer test as apart of my agreement with staying with my family member, while being a mom, working on my mental health and picking my life back up with no car, no apartment, no money saved up and no hope.
After winning my show, I was took a leap of faith to start my own online training business and became successful at becoming an advocate for other men and women who struggle with the same problems.
We all have a past, but resilience is what sets you apart from the rest.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think the most helpful for succeeding in my field is having the ability to be the teacher and the student at all times. Being open to learning from all walks of life. Not only just the text books, the courses, the tests, the biomechanics, the kinesiology.
But also studying the mind, how it works, reading books on self development and mental health. Listening to motivational speakers and audiotapes.
