Airbrush tanning is pretty person considering you a barely dressed in front of a perfect stranger in the beginning. I do my best to remind all my clients that no one escapes gravity, but also that we feel like we can accomplish more when we are comfortable in our own skin. Tanning is often considered a very superficial thing, but it’s more than that to my clients.
Vitiligo is a condition in which the skin loses its pigment cells (melanocytes). This often presents itself in blotches of different tones across the skin. Airbrush tanning can help to lessen the drastic pigment differences. I watched many videos and did a lot of research on what to do and not do when tanning someone with vitiligo.
In 2020, I had a client reach out to me and ask if I could spray tan someone with vitiligo. I told her I wasn’t 100% in my ability since I hadn’t done it before but that I would love if she would give me the chance to work with her. This client is Colombian and has a beautiful skin tone naturally, but due to vitiligo, her natural pigment was 80% gone. We talked about what she hoped to achieve color and depth wise before moving forward. When she reached out to me the next day, I never could’ve imagined how impactful her words would be. She messaged to tell me that she cried when she looked in the mirror the morning after her tan. She had been losing her pigment for 6 years. When she look in the mirror, she could barely tell where she had lost coloring. She said for the first time in years, she was comfortable in her skin. Comfortable enough to sweat shorts to the beach on vacation with her family.
Airbrush tanning is a beauty service, but to some, it’s so much more than that.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I started my business in 2019, I never could’ve dreamed of all the amazing people I would meet because of it. The biggest reason for starting my business is to create awareness of the risk of skin cancer. 1 in the every 5 Americans will battle skin cancer in their lifetime. I offer a safer and quicker alternative to tanning outside or in a tanning bed, but I also educate my clients on how to protect themselves when they are outside. A lot of health insurances will cover a preventative scan yearly for lesions by a dermatologist. This is a benefit a lot of people just aren’t aware of.
Outside of the education I offer to my clients, I love working in the wedding industry. I am total sucker for love stories so it’s always so sweet to hear how my clients met their significant others.
I offer airbrush tanning in my salon space in downtown Fort Worth and have done training through three reputable companies. Two of these companies did hands on training with me and I certify with a new program every year to make sure I’m sharpening my skills! I have also been trained to do teeth whitening and offer that service as well.
The most recent venture has been launching my private label self-tanning product line. I launched a tanning mousse last year that has been raved about all over the country. Since the beginning of the year, I have launched a second formula of the mousse and a tanning mist for touch ups. There are plans to release 4 more products this year and a possibility of a few new things coming out in 2023.
I believe what has set Globox Tan apart from other businesses is my passion for building relationships. Each of my clients becomes family and I love hearing from people all across the country using Globox products. I do what I can to provide the best experience and when issues arise, I act quickly to resolve them.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media can be daunting and I’m definitely not perfect, but have learned a lot. I think the biggest key I’ve learned with social media is to be genuine in your posts. I don’t ever want someone to scroll my business pages and feel like they’re talking to a used car salesman. I think following people and businesses in your industry you can look up to will get you a long way. Connecting and interacting with posts and people that could relate to your business will always help you organically grow. The other side of the coin is enlist an expert when needed. I am bringing someone on my team to keep my accountable and help with structure when it comes
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being brave enough to face rejection and failure. When I first started tanning, I asked a lot of wedding industry professionals to try out my service. I was received well a lot of the time, but there were times I was not responded to kindly. I have always stayed positive and thanked those declining for responding. No doesn’t mean not ever, it means not right now.
