Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chelsea Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Chelsea, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative career when I was a high school student. Throughout school, I didn’t really feel any other passion in other subjects that gave me joy as much as art. I always loved to draw and especially animation and 2D illustration.

Chelsea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Asian American illustrator who got into the arts ever since I was young. I remember ever since I was young, that I had the love to draw and attention to detail. I went to art school and am now pursuing a career in the creative field. I provide mostly 2D illustration work, but am also expanding my career horizons in graphic design and 2D animation. I feel that my attention to detail, uniqueness in my creativity, and willingness to step out of my comfort zone is what sets me apart. I am most proud of my continuous growth in my skill as well as my persevereness to never give up on what I love to do. A lot of my work/style is inspired from cartoons, Japanese anime, and editorial illustration/graphic design. I also love cute things and feel that cuteness is what describes my aesthetic.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think the biggest lesson I had to unlearn is comparing myself to others. I firmly believe that comparison is the thief of joy and will get you no where. I do however believe in looking up to creative professionals and learning something from their craft. There will always be someone better than you, but why should you think about that when you can focus on investing in yourself?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think for me personally, being a creative is what makes me unique as a person. There is no one like me and I wouldn’t want to be anyone else but me. I also think that it’s beautiful that creatives can conjure their thoughts and soul into their craft that is unique to them.
