We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsea Lane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsea, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
If you know anything about interior design trends you know that wallpaper has “been back” for a decade now. The wallpaper trends now are vintage paper. It is having a big moment and I am all for it!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Chelsea Lane & Co. showroom is more than just the largest resource for wallpaper. We offer the latest trims, fabrics, lighting, furniture, and so many more design related finishes. When you come into the showroom an experienced and enthusiastic associate helps you make your design vision come to life. If you are unsure of exactly what you want they can assist you in creating your design as well. Our complementary design services are perfect for the client who knows they want wallpaper and drapes but they don’t know where to start and they do not want to hire an interior designer for their project. I don’t think you can find that kind of service anywhere else. Our clients truly become friends at the end of the process.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Leasing has been such a struggle for me in Palm Beach County. We were forced to move our of our last spot on Dixie Hwy due to another local design firm expanding and taking over our space. We were heartbroken to move but stumbled across the beautiful place we had now and were able to build it out to make it our own. Just a few months ago we were told that the landlord sold the building to a large developer in the area with plans on tearing the building down and putting up another high-rise downtown. I am once again faced with the struggle of moving my firm. It takes a lot of resilience to focus on the positive and look forward to what the future has in store for us. I see this happening to so many small businesses in the area and it is heartbreaking to see all of the local heart of this company pulled out and replaced with condo buildings. Through this all I see the future of this local small business community and their resilience.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
You are nothing without a solid team. I owe so much of my business growth to my current group of girls. I believe it is so important to make them feel like they have a voice in this company and a role in our growth. I think it is also very important to tell them when they are doing a good job and also explain when they might need to improve on a few things as well. We need to set our employees up for success and that comes with a lot of training and patience. The girls I have continue to inspire and amaze me every single day. Their creativity and talent truly make me so proud. I am so excited to see where we take this company in the next few year and watch all of us grow individually and as a team.
