Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chelsea & Daphni. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chelsea & Daphni, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
A big trend this year is the emphasis on natural aesthetics. There’s been a significant shift towards natural looking lashes. Many clients are opting for treatments like lash lift and tints to enhance their natural features without the need for extensions themselves. We’ve noticed our clients who don’t have long natural lashes for a lift and tint shifting toward that minimalistic aesthetic by opting for a set brown lash extensions. They offer a soft and subtle look as opposed to the dark line you get with classic black extensions. Last Friday we had a client come in who’d received a gift card for her 80th birthday, but she was apprehensive about the harshness of the black lashes. She was elated when I showed her the brown lashes. Having the option gave her reassurance in her set, and she booked her next several appointments prior to leaving.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Daphni and I got our start working at a salon in Brighton that specialized in lash extensions. It was one of the very first salons in Livingston County to specialize in JUST lash extensions. When we opened Lash Levity our goal was to carry that specialty over to our studio, and to excel further with more up to date training and higher quality products. We strive to learn more and more every day from our industry, its one of the things that I think makes us stand out against others in our area. By providing quality services we are ensuring that we’re practicing at the top of our licenses, we’re better able to troubleshoot if and when its needed, thus insuring that our clients are always getting the safest version of the service possible. That’s something we’re extremely proud of, our standard of service.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Sure! Daphni and I first met way back in 2005, where we were in choir together! I was a freshman, and had auditioned to join the Varsity Choir. I was not well received by everyone because freshman had never been allowed into the Varsity Choir before, so there was some disdain from a good deal of the other kids.
Daphni and I weren’t what we would call fast friends either, we were both sassy teenagers, yall can fill in the blanks there LOL
That was it really, until around 2016/2017 ish. I was working for a lash studio in Brighton and the owner had hired in her cousin. I was shocked when Daphni walked in! I was tasked with training Daphni and through working so close with one another we formed a great friendship! Jump to 2025 – we couldn’t possibly imagine our lives without one another. We work incredibly well together and both bring our special skills to the table, making for an easy peasy business relationship as well!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The moment we pivoted. The moment we changed our lives was over lunch at the lash studio we started out at. I (Daphni) had planned out an entire speach, but all I ended up doing was blurting out “do you wanna open our own salon?”. It turns out I didn’t need the speach at all, Chelsea was all in. We had already developed a fantastic working relationship and we both knew we had reached our highest potential where we were and the only way to grow any further was to take that leap of faith. So together we did what neither of us was brave enough to do alone. We opened the doors to Lash Levity in February of 2023 and are striving to provide an environment where there is no limit placed on the potential of anyone on our team.
