We recently connected with Chelsea Bizub and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I would have started my creative career later after building more personal capital to buy time to research collectors and businesses that reached out to me. I would have waited to gain more wisdom and perspective on myself and my environment before putting myself out there as an independent artist. I started selling artwork right after college without fully assessing the emotional, social, and financial risks. However, time is a fleeting resource, and I’m grateful that I produced artwork that connected with a large audience and that I had the opportunity to learn so much through the process.
Chelsea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a mixed media and collage artist based in Manhattan, creating professionally for the past 13 years. My studio is in the heart of Rockefeller Plaza, where I develop artwork that blends art history, the natural world, and the city’s ever-evolving cultural landscape. My work has been commissioned for hospitals across the country, and I’m an active member of NOAH (National Organization for Arts in Health), contributing to the intersection of art and well-being. In addition to producing my own artwork, I lead creative workshops in residential buildings and cultural centers and volunteer at The MET. My goal is to create meaningful connections through art, whether by enriching public spaces, fostering creativity in communities, or engaging with individuals through hands-on experiences.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To heal my soul while creating beautiful, thought-provoking artwork and experiences for others to enjoy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
When others love and resonate with my artwork in their own unique way, especially when it inspires them to create their own pieces.
