Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chelsea Amato. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Chelsea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
As of right now, I am undergoing IVF and it has severely limited me in terms of taking on projects. These days I often have to say “No” and just hope that when I am done with this phase in my life (Whatever may happen) there will still be opportunities for me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Chelsea Amato, otherwise known as @chelseascreename and I am a mixed media artist that creates with collage and epoxy resign. My artwork has a distinct aesthetic of maximalist interior design.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
IVF has been really hard emotionally, financially and physically. Having to limit the projects I can say “Yes” to and slow down because of the physical demands and time restraints of fertility treatments has been very hard on image of myself as an artist. I can’t show as much as I would like or create as much as I would like. However, these restraints have helped in the sense of better time management of cranking out projects when I have a break in treatment or being able to draw from these experiences to create
Have you ever had to pivot?
Because of the IVF I’ve had to pivot in what I think is important and making sure to choose my health and slowing down a bit more than saying yes to everything and beating up my body and mind. I’m in a mid-pivot right now, as I am doing another round of IVF this time in an overseas clinic in Prague. I’m using this time to intake more inspiration for future works. An artist even when they are not working, is always working.
